Yoyos in pop culture

I was playing Shin Megami Tensei If… and this game has yoyos as a weapon type, I don’t think there are yoyos in any other megaten game? I always think it’s interesting to see where yoyos popped up before the hyper yoyo/late 90s boom.

I love the way yoyos just have to pop up here and there. My wife walked over to me this morning and said hey look at this.

Just saw that commercial the other day. You can’t keep a classic down. Going strong for at least 2400 years. (1st advertisement)

Sometimes when I watch movies, I just must not be paying attention that well. The reason I say that is because this movie I’m gonna talk about is one that I’ve seen several times over the years and it’s one of my favorite silly movies.

The other day I was messing around in the living room with my iPad and my wife was gonna go in the next room and do some sewing for the grandkids I guess… So she just put on something figuring it would be OK background sound for me as opposed to just turning the TV off.

So about a minute after she put down the channel changer, I glanced up at the TV from my iPad and I saw the title of the movie… Good Burger. So I just sat down my iPad and started watching the movie.

Anyway, how’s the movie went on, Dexter, related to Ed that his father had given him a yo-yo when he was a child. And the yo-yo was a light up yo-yo but after a while it quit lighting up and then he doesn’t remember what happened to it but he really liked it.

So a few scenes later, Ed, gives Dexter a bag and says this is a present for you. Dexter opens the bag and pulls out a yo-yo. He asks Ed what’s up with the yo-yo? And Ed tells him I remember you said you really like that yo-yo that your dad gave you so I bought you a yo-yo it lights up and everything.

I honestly don’t remember that part before? But they certainly just didn’t add it to the movie… That’s why I said I guess I just don’t pay attention when I’m watching movies sometimes, lol.

But I saw it this time and here’s a still shot of Dexter holding the light up. I actually did a short video but it can’t post straight up to this site. I would have to put it on YouTube and then send you a link and I figured no big deal.

So a yo-yo sighting in a real funny movie from a real long time ago.

Kenan is so young! I think I’ve seen this one, but I probably wasn’t paying attention! I do that too. I’m always asking my wife, if we saw something. I’ll check this one out again.
