They are easily propagated by paddles as well. I had someone steal a paddle from it last year!

thats mean! i have a neighbor that propogates and then has a plant exchange in the front yard. its like those book exchange boxes. take a plant, leave a plant. i thought that was so dope when they started it

Yep, glochids are very nasty, and can be nearly invisible. I’ve found liberal amounts of fire is usually the best method for getting rid of them when harvesting the tunas or nopales. A wire basket and a weed burner works wonders.

I would go full clover yard if HOA wasn’t an issue. I generally keep it partly tall fescue so it survives the harsh summer and a bit of rye but I would go full garden plot full if vegetables for a yard if that was socially acceptable.
Right now it’s too cold so it’s not a concern

Nopales - Is a Paddle type cactus that is used as food.
Snag a Paddle just slightly larger than your hand, plop it in the dirt, water ocassionally and your off.
It is not uncommon to see people pull over and snag paddles around these parts.
The Prickly Pears that they produce are amazing as well.
I always ask permission before stealing a paddle. Everyone I have asked, gave freely.

Pricky Pears are my FAVORITE fruit, but they’re so expensive to get in New England.
