I don’t have a ton of throws, and most of the ones I own are from Circle City Yoyos or Rain City Skills, so take my list with a grain of salt. But my current top five are:

  1. Circle City Warhawk (I’m not biased at all)
  2. Circle City Warbird
  3. Rain City Metalhead
  4. Rain City Author
  5. Circle City Muse

Warhawk and Warbird are my favorite all-around, being one bi-metal and one mono. The Metalhead is my favorite for grinds and fingerspins, and feels more competitive. The Author is insanely light but still really stable, so it’s just a super fun yoyo to play with. And the Muse is a really comfortable throw, fees good to play all day and the spikes are fun for matador tricks.

I have an Avocado, it sort of grew on me. It is pretty heavy, but it’s good outside, or on a windy day. It’s very smooth, so it fits in the pocket well. May be the yo-yo that took longest for me to relate to of the many I’ve owned. I didn’t like it at first, thought it too heavy.

It took a bit to adjust to but it definitely grew on me haha! The power behind it took me off guard too.

I love my avocado, it was the first yoyo I bought after being away from the hobby during my late teens and early 20s, I saw it for 10$ on amazon and it hooked me back in! It also hooked me on organic shapes! Ill just say it may not match my CLYWs or one drops but I always bring it with me when I travel!

There’s always a flavor of the week new to me yoyo temporarily being a favorite, but long term these are always getting picked up:
Yoyojam Hitman
OneDrop Top Deck
ILYY Abyss
CLYW Glacier Express
@chaosgow Wanker

Honorary mentions to the 888, tivayder, palpitation, valkyrie and markmont classic all of which could be on my top 5 also.

Got to try out an ILYY Abyss at a yoyo club meet up recently and that thing is :fire::fire::fire:. Took me a while to even realize it was a bimetal, and the finish feels so good. Believe me, if I owned one, it would have been in my top 5 as well!

For 1A:

  • Ti-Vayder
  • General-yo 5 Star
  • YYF Ti-888
  • Markmont Classic Magnum Opus (I know, it’s new, but i’ve have an MC for quite a while now and this plays slightly nicer with the same feel)
  • RSO Silver Bullet

And an honorable mention to the MFD Conspiracy. It needs new pads and im not sure if I want to try siliconing it for my first time, or if I should just throw in the pads id use in any other yoyo (this is one of the few yoyos I own that comes siliconed and not with pads). Any advice?

Not in any particular order

  1. Any of my Titaniums
  2. Any of my Aluminum Mono-Metals
  3. Any of my Plastic throws
  4. All of my wood bois
  5. Any of my Bi-Metals

Adorable mention to the Stainless Steels. I enjoy every yoyo I touch as they all present their own challenges.

No order but rn I got 50/50, warhawk, beanie, death adder, and a tie between 07 888 and 5star

Edit for explanations: warhawk is just pure power in a fun and unique package. Beanie and death adder are kinda in between fun and performance and give a bit of both which is pretty cool. 07 888 and 5star have that old school goodness that I love, and the 50/50 kinda takes that to the next level with float and zippiness that you can’t really find in such a small diameter yoyo.

Honestly, silicone isn’t as scary as people make it out to be. When I got my Warhawks, I had Bradd silicone one for me so I had a standard to work from, and I did the other four (I bought all five colorways). The first one was pretty rough, but after that it got way easier and I just scraped out the first one and redid it.

The most important thing with silicone is make sure you keep it clean. Don’t let any silicone get into the bearing seat. Pinch the tip of the silicone tube to make a diamond shape, and shove it down into the response channel and make sure you’re filling it: you don’t want bubbles underneath the silicone where you didn’t put enough. So put the tip way down in and squeeze the tube so it fills from the bottom up, to avoid those bubbles. Once the response channel is full, use a credit card (or in my case, an expired Sam’s Club card) to flatten out the top of the silicone and remove excess. You’re gonna want to have paper towels handy so you can wipe the card off. An easy way to keep the card level is to hold it against the axle post, and hold it down touching flat on the yoyo. When you spin the card around, make sure you’re doing it at an angle that points excess silicone away from the bearing seat rather than towards it.

After that, just cover it up with a shoebox or something so you don’t get dust or pet hair or anything in the silicone, and leave it for 24 hours to cure. After it’s fully cured, run that credit card around the edge to scrape off little chunks of excess from the first time using the card. And you want to double check the bearing seat, as sometimes you can get a tiny bit of silicone in there without realizing it and it’ll look like a little hair when it comes out. I cut a Q-tip in half and used the hard end as a pick to run around the bearing seat to be extra careful.

All of that sounds kinda complicated, but it’s really not. If you mess it up, you can always clean it out and try again. And I’d be happy to send you pics from when I was doing it, if anything I said above is unclear. It definitely takes a bit of work, but it’s a real fun feeling of accomplishment when it’s done and you think to yourself “wow, this yoyo plays amazing, and I did that!”

G2 Jake’s Guide

It’s really straightforward. Even if you get silicone in the bearing seat, just wait 24hrs for it to dry and all the overflow just peels off super easy.

Really only messy if you try to “fix” it when the silicone is wet.
