I couldn’t possibly part with any of my Top Decks. I’ll just have to hope they do a clear (not silver) run.
I like the engraving on the top deck and summits. I wonder id OD has an in house engraver?
If we could get some unengraved ones it would be awesome but Im gonna cop regardless👍🏼
No, it’s just anodizing with no dye. We call it “clear” but it can also be called “silver”. Same thing though.
Well, I’m hoping to see a clear/silver Top Deck that is polished to look like “raw” aluminum. I don’t know if One Drop has ever done that (their silver finishes always look like silver to me, not raw), but a guy can dream…
I got one of those and it does look raw. But then it’s my only clear, so nothing to compare it to.
yup. doing clear with a lower anodizing time gets this effect. it’s the best way to simulate raw.
I think it’s an excellent choice for a new round of Top Decks since it is a color/finish we’ve not yet seen on a Top Deck.
Sample clear from last few orders:
Panorama, more standard clear.
Rebirth, very raw appearance.
Diorama, between the two.
Hmm. I don’t really think that Rebirth looks like raw to me.
This is what I mean by “clear” (this is the UNPRLD Reduction in what they call their “Clear” finish):
Actually, I take that back. The Rebirth does kinda look raw-ish. But I’m thinking of something a bit more polished, like the Reduction.
I think the difference in the Diorama is from the 7075. They usally come out more shiny.
Yeah polished is much different from straight raw.
Okay, well, then in the interests of getting my One Drop terminology accurate, what I’m hoping for is a “polished clear” finish to be among the colorway options for the next round of Top Decks.
We just don’t really do that finish because it doesn’t grind well. Pyramatte is more matte so it grinds better more like a blast.
Okay, well then maybe I can find someone who will strip the ano, polish it, and re-ano it for me. Might be worth it just to get a polished/clear Top Deck (I also want a polished/clear VTWO someday so would probably have to go the same route with that).
that would be your choice but we always recommend against it. Stripping almost always causes vibe.
I know it’s not possible but I’m gonna vote for a Nickel Plated Top Deck signed by JT Nickel.
In reality I just want a clear one in any finish.
Understood.
I had a silver VTWO stripped and powder-coated white for me, and it has no vibe, which is shocking. I got real lucky with that one.
I also had an SF SF stripped for me and left raw, and it also has no discernable vibe. Maybe I just got lucky again.
