Thanks to the poster who broke down cost in an amount to save/day. It shows how achievable it is to fund a trip to Iceland if you have the discipline (and means to save $3.25/day).
After my son and I get to meet all of you (who will be in Cleveland) we hope to be excited to see some of you again in Iceland).
Letās take our traveling freakshow yoyo community on the road and see a beautiful country that has 19 hours of daylight in August!
I just did a quick poke around at fares, and you can get there for as low as $300. Thatās less than $0.50 a day.
Just sayinā. That $2000 is really the upper amount it would cost with no advance booking and without any of the economy options. The truth will lie somewhere between $300 and $2000.
Book in advance. Even if it means borrowing (assuming you can borrow from friend or family) $300 and giving interest, vs. just saving up the $1500 or $2000 cash.
Either Iām a little further away, or I didnāt get as good a deal as you did, or both.
Cheapest I could find was 1400 and the farthest out I could book was a year from now.
I was trying to estimate a rough total cost, since I donāt want to pack a tent
I can get an even better deal at $99.
But no, I just picked a random major city in the U.S. (Chicago) and made sure to select a date that was well in advance (a year from now, not even the almost-2-years). There were a few fares even cheaper ($159 or something?) but I could tell from the description that those were loss leader bait fares and not as legit as a person would hope (like my $99 one).
A lot of people going online for a quick estimate just pick todayās date, forgetting that airlines almost always have lower costs for booking well in advance.
Also, the ammount of flights to and from Iceland are increasing rapidly icluding more direct flights and our airports are expanding.
Expect lower prices in 2 years :).
Then you might have to be my travel agent
Chicago is probably closer than Raleigh NC, but itās also a major hub so maybe thatās it?
I donāt know. $100 is pretty cheap though so I might could swing thatā¦
Picked another random date and it was $1268 from Charlotteā¦ Not ācheapā, but still not 2K.
iām in charlotte, and the best iām getting is $892 from atlanta (4 hour drive) with a stop in nyc. as it does every year, my attendance will depend on all the stuff my kids have going on, but thatās definitely manageable, and super stoked on the destination.
I rounded up to factor in hotels for an overall rough (very rough) estimate.
Ahhhh, yes. Iām with you now! Ed, not badā¦ itās not āpocket changeā but itās a more digestible sum.

I wonder where things will go in 2020?
I think Bangkok.
2020 will be Budapest, Hungary, and 2021 will be Japan. This was announced by the IYYF in August.
