WTB/ LF: one of them there “good” 888’s

So I tire of living in the shadow of the early “good” 888, I have two 888x, and I would like to track down an 07, 08, 2011 “classic”, or whatever is considered a proper 888. I enjoy my X’s, so I’m really curious what I’m missing.

Forgive me for tagging, but I know both @kawaii.kaede and @pyrotechnic seem to know a lot about these, am I on the right track? Are there other more easily attainable models that will fit the bill of the “true 888 experience”? Thanks in advance!

Not looking for a collector piece, I’m gonna play this bad boy.

cough aoda rainbow plays the same cough lol I wish you luck on the og quest bro

I guess I never came across the thread comparing the new 888’s to the OG design. Is it out there? Are they comparable or still nothing better than…?

Well I would highly recommend the newest 888 they play like the OG but better machining. But if your going for OG get the 07, 08 or 2011 “classic”

Hold my beer

Here they are in order of 07, 08, Classic and Newest

Well as you can see the dimensions are all the same

The biggest difference is weight

Hope this helps

Edit: realized after I was done that the 08 has z-stacks so that will add a lil bit to the weight so here is hubstack to Z-stack weights

So take about 3.23 grams off the 08 weight which brings it to 65.58

Very helpful, thanks a ton!!! That certainly widens my scope a bit, and I totally forgot the newest iteration is a callback to the originals.

Are you looking for play, or collectibility?

if you’re looking for play, just get a reissue of the 888 available on YoYoExpert now.

They are exact replicas of (2007 I think?). But an early year before the 888x regardless. Apparently there was a fair amount of variation in runs back then, and they chose the reissue to be what they felt was the best example.

This is why I never understood the continued collector hype around early 888s justified by playfeel.

If you want one that’s old because it’s rare and valuable, totally get it. But completely unnecessary if you want to feel what it would be like to play one back in the day.

I have located a nice used modern reissue

Wow!!! I figured they’d have minute differences. You know, fractions of grams. 6, 7 grams differentials is pretty substantial! Wow, I never knew. I mean, after throwing a bunch, I knew there was a difference. I just never thought it would be so large of one.

How are people saying the new ones feel like 07s if they’re 4g heavier? That seems a bit crazy.

I have a legendary 888 and without hubstacks it feels closeish to how the 07 I had did (highwall so very light).

My rice rocket spikes don’t fit on it very well though :frowning:

I will be doing a detailed comparison between the 888x and the re-issue once I receive it, I’ll be sure to measure and weigh everything I can

Weights varied massively in the 07 runs - mine is around 64 grams, so closer to the new ones
