recently ive been experimenting with style and had realized that the tension in my wrists had an effect on how i play. my tricks become a lot
more fluid when i keep my wrists looser than normal…it’s also fun to play fast with looser wrists
I’ve been think about “touch” a lot lately which seems like the same thing kind of. I notice I hit techy tricks more if I keep my hands and wrists loose and relaxed verses tense. I only realized I was playing super tense like two days ago and was maybe going to make a post about it but I saw this in the suggested posts and it seems like you noticed something similar. I’m just starting to experiment with how loose/tense I play and I wonder if you’ve had any new thoughts about this idea since the OP. Either way good insight and it was nice to see someone else thinking about this.
I noticed some stuff during those years of playing:
For string tricks is usually nice to have a relaxed wrist and fingers it helps with speed and accuracy as you are able to rotate and do micromovement better and with more flow (overall the flow with a relaxed wrist get much better).
A bit more tense wrist and fingers I noticed it helps for hooks and whips (even more when you start to do 2.0/3.0 and so on) where the movement is a bit more a “hit and go”, in that case tense your wrist and arms a bit help the string to go quicker and stronger in the direction you like and to keep things parallel and in place.
Another thing that seems useless but is actually something to care of is to relax the shoulders, I learned all those things playing classical music and applied in life, relaxed shoulders make the whole body relaxed and flexible and help a lot with string tricks and flow and also help you to go through longer sessions without discomfort
oh man the shoulders is one part of my body that i have never once thought about while playing
