I got one of these yoyoformula yoyo holders and I was hoping to hang it on the wall. I didn’t realize it doesn’t come with any hooks on it and the wood is pretty thin. Does anyone have some advice on how to hang it to the wall while being able to hold the weight of 20 yoyos?
The main issue is that it would cause the case to sit further away from the wall than some alternatives (you could add spacers towards the bottom to keep it from tilting forward).
The benefits include the ability to anchor the cleat to the wall studs* (assuming that’s what you are dealing with) and depending on the type of cleat, cleaner and more secure mounting options to the case itself.
(*) i.e. you can screw the cleat at any points, even if they are not centered, without it showing from the front.
Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it. I’m going to talk to my Dad about both ideas and see what he says. I got a TV to hang on the same wall soon too so Im planning to have him help me do both. Slightly nervous to yoyo so close to a TV but I’ve never hit the wall behind me with a yoyo and hopefully I never do ha! I will let you guys know how it goes.
I would put small D-hangers (like used for picture frames) into the top two corners into edge of the plywood. Be sure to use a pilot hole and some small screws. Then hang the D-hooks onto bear claw wall anchors.
The bear claws can go either directly into drywall or into studs for even more strength. But a shelf of yo-yos is honestly not that heavy. This is what I hang all of my old coke crates full of throws with. Just be sure to gently hand screw them in and stop when they hit the wall. If you overtighten into drywall it will strip out.
Edit: Bearclaws can generally hold 30lbs each when mounted into drywall and 100lbs each when mounted into studs. 24 average unresponsive Al yo-yos weighs about 3.5lbs. The shelf itself I’d guess is probably about the same.
