I don’t think I’m first to say it. But I don’t really care too much for clyws new yo-yos such as the dune and compass, they just seem a little bland. Not saying that all of their new yo-yos are boring; the Akita looks like a must have for me. But nothing really compares to their old models in my opinion such as the Chief, Orca, and Scout to name a few. I know they can’t exactly make the Wooly Marmot because it’s Jensen Kimmit’s old signature. The Chief isn’t however and it is a highly sought after yo-yo yet they are not made. I wonder why because all of their fools gold yo-yos which are old models sell out super quickly so there definitely is a demand.
It could be that CLYW’s assessment and definition of “demand” is different from yours.
Then again, maybe they are secretly planning to re-release (some of) them as we speak! Somehow I doubt it, and even if they did, could they resist the temptation that every other company gives in to to “update” and “modernize” them in the process, potentially ruining what made them so popular in the first place?
I don’t want them to modernize the old models, it would take away what makes them special.
They used to be in high demand, but the last few original CLYW’s I’ve sold have taken a long time to sell, so not sure how “in demand” they are these days.
I say this with CLYW being one of my favorite companies, Chris in my opinion is on the YoYo Mt. Rushmore.
Why would they want to make something old, instead of something new? Their recent releases (metal yeti, akita) have gotten a lot of interest, so they’re doing something right in 2018/19.
Maybe for the same reason Fender and Gibson make re-issues of their classic guitars. People seem to be willing to spend big $$$ to get them, so why not pull in some of that revenue rather than just leave it to the aftermarket?
in my opinion they just need to make more models that will suit their audiences better (which includes you)
Companies don’t make old models because their are busy making new ones.
That’s exactly the way it should be.
they would just manufacture old models while designing/making new models
Because designing and making new models is the idea. It’s moving forward.
Yeah, but doesn’t one drop still produce some of their older models?
I don’t think clyw have the means/cads to create their old models. Most of their older yoyos were machined in house at the time or by OD around 2011/2012, and now currently overseas. Not sure how you design works so my reasoning could be wrong but I know for a fact a lot of their older designs were in house until they moved to OD
That’s what I’m sayin’
Agreed.
Did they also do their own anodizing?
They remade the Peak, the most iconic of all the CLYW throws.
Excellent point, sir
And what a great yoyo it is.
Remember, these are 1 or 2 man shops, they don’t have resources to design, manufacture, market, fulfil in the manner you suggest.
Yes but I feel they are only giving 100% they could possibly give 106%, 112%, maybe as much as 119% if they really pushed themselves.
