There’s nothing but dirt in front of my house, so I throw out there on occasion. So here I am, standing in a sea of dirt with my new SR-71. The speed bearing is cleaned and installed. I’ve got a nice purple 100% poly string on. I go into a split-bottom mount, split the atom. I give it a few spins, then I go into a brain twister for a few more, then I let it all hang loose. Too loose.
Sailing on the sea of dirt is a twig canoe. The SR-71, not equipped with a weapons loadout, homes in and kamikazes the twig canoe. Overkill, I say. No big deal, I think. It’s just a twig. I bind it and go for another throw, but before I do, I feel that the aluminum edge of my SR-71 is no longer smooth. Well, it wasn’t all that smooth to begin with, but now it has a very narrow scar on the very edge, and I am inducted into the “ding it on day one club.”
i got a dm v1 yesterday, and a skywalker today. as soon as i got the dm, i threw it, it snagged a tad, so i unscrewed it. put it back together, went for a snap start, turns out the string wasnt on the yoyo, it went sliding and skidding down my driveway, on the rims.
Day one with my Genesis I put my Z-staks on and I tried playing catch the yoyo off the string… I dropped it, not biggy… now it almost has silver rings around the outermost rims
I’m sadly a member of this club too… I don’t really have a story to go with it or anything, but I do absolutely hate it when I ding my brand new yo-yo on the first day. It’s a total bummer and it’s like flushing trade/resale value down the toilet.
dinged my yuuksta on day 1 or 2, not really sure how it happened (probably during a breakaway I did in my staircase), it’s a very very small ding tho, maybe 1.5mm long, but it annoys me
meh I guess a yoyo is meant to be played so it’ll happen eventually
i didnt scratch mine on day 1. but i got my hands on one of those Royal Dark Magics… with the pretty Gold rims… and i was yoyoing outside of a club that i was playing a show at… and it was all concrete… i threw it really low for a triple or nothing… and well it was nothing… nothing but loud… it is gashed and scratched… ive dropped it on concrete while learning 5a… the rims are now half raw
I bought a orange DNA and let my friend use it . He didnt know how to bind so he went to catch it with his throw hand and missed , right on gravel … not good . so sad …
I just got my Hspin Cut late at night and after a while decided to do a couple of offstring throws with it (over carpet)(and yes i know a dumb idea). then the next morning i took it to work and had forgotten that i didnt put the string back on the bearing. So i threw it down as hard as i could not thinking and there it goes a 1000 MPH on the cement! it came apart and i almost lost my bearing too. i was nearly brought to tears in front of a couple of co-workers!!
I dinged one of my HATricks the first day - but I knew it was a keeper, so I didn’t mind. The only one’s I bother keeping mint are those I think I might not want to hang onto.
