So i finally got my hands on a deep state. Ive been wanting ine forever, its my first side effect yoyo.
I like it, but i cant say I love it (yet, at least).
Wondering if there any specific tricks that semi responsive yoyos excell at?
Honestly it feels like im playing a responsive yoyo that has limitations, rather than a top tier yoyo the Deep State should be.
Im thinking ill slap some thick string in there or something to adjust responsiveness, but just wondering why even bother with semi responsive at all. Its such a frustrating way to play, unless there is some specific reason for it i am missing.
The way I see it is that it is primarily for people that like to do old style tricks, but want a long spin time and no surprise returns, like to the back of your hand. If you learned on responsive, they make a lot more sense, if you learned on unresponsive, they may just seem pointless.
If you like to do stalls and loops and stuff, you will put it down fast.
Yeah. I couldn’t form a love for semi responsive. That’s why I felt the need to try a narrow bearing in the first place. I could possibly be persuaded to help you out with it. If that interests you. The only thing that really gets modded is the Side Effects and they still work just fine with a standard bearing even after being modded.
I actually really like a good semi-responsive. If it’s just right you can still do a lot of responsive tricks but also tie in some longer combos and even some unresponsive stuff as the spin dies down. It’s an acquired play but lots of fun for me.
I have never understood semi-responsive yo-yo’s. The reason we hated the old fashioned Duncan Butterfly’s and the Imperials was the fact that they inevitably smacked your hand or face unexpectedly and painfully. Unresponsive made this a danger of long-combo’s; not a random, inevitable and painful event that responsive yo-yo play was.
So why semi-responsive? What purpose does something between unresponsive and certain-pain seem like a good idea?
Too much over thinking of the concept. Semi-responsive is a relative state pending on RPMs and the amount of maintenance you want to do. Intial throw, it will respond quicker and easier, allowing for simlpe Planet Hops or Shoot the Moons. Longer combos and spin diminishes more looser tricks with whips or slacks can be pulled. Almost out of spin and you’ll need to bind or snap start eventually.
I pack my Deep State bearings full of silicon grease. Makes them super snappy. I also had one with a center track grooved bearing for a little and it made it fully unresponsive.
This is just a comparison. like a person starting out in a WRX might look at an AE86 and think it’s pointless. It’s got it’s strengths, you just have to get to know it.
I slapped some C3 fat string (which i sorta think is a bit less fat than most other fat strings ive tried but could just be me) into the Deep State.
I am liking it a lot more this way. I have to make sure i keep the string a but more tense than i usually like, but not a bad conpromise in exchange for not caking the bearing with grease.
Binus that it matches my nails . I started letting my GF paint my nails on one if my hands at a time during football . I low key like it now .
