What yo-yos would be considered "infamous"?

Whats sad about this one is that I heard the protos used a different axle system and were fine :-[

Death By Yoyo EKG and Gung Fu. Company was owned by James Coppley, don’t really know what caused it, but one day he ditched, leaving many customers without their merchandise and no refunds.

I think we’ve got a good understanding of infamous happening here. Some yoyos I consider infamous are those that play so well but have some terrible flaws that make them frustrating to the owner.

One such yoyo to me is the YYF Protostar. I think it is a good performer, but putting in those tricky no-harder-than-tin foil spacers in there was just mean. Yet we all just accept it. It wouldn’t have been a problem if they didn’t stick to the bearing like crazy glue. sigh

Furthermore, YYF have never changed this since it was released!

Im kinda sad to read about the Rev being the worst on that list. Im surprized for two reasons. One, because I fly Revolution (Rev) kites and they are masterclass in precision and craftsmanship. Two the fact that such a great company made such a bad yoyo makes me kinda sad for them.

For what its worth, Rev Kites are 110% worth the price tags.

I think your confusing companies. The Revolution kites company has nothing to do with Recreational Revolution–the yoyo company run by the most dishonest scammer in the history of this hobby.

Revolution Kites made the Rev G, Recreation Revolution is a yoyo company and did not make the Rev G.

Its possible, Im rather new here and not up to snuff on my yoyo history. However…

1. Revolution Rev-G: This is so obvious that I’m afraid it may be an anticlimax, but I guess that alone tells you something about the legendary Rev-G. Personally, I have never been more disappointed with a yo-yo than this one, and that includes the Lucha Libre, which ended my first yo-yo sponsorship. I first tried a Rev-G in my local shopping mall around Y2K. Most yo-yo’s were still pretty cheap back then, and its $80 price point put it right up there with the Cold Fusion and SB-2 in terms of “luxury” expectations. And honestly, I’ll admit that my late-90’s ridiculously-wide-jeans, bleached-hair self thought the Rev-G looked pretty flippin’ sweet. For one, it had a carbon fiber body. CARBON FIBER. Like in Formula One cars and the bones of those Avatar aliens! And yet again, it not only had rubber o-rings stretched around the rims, but also came with a protective, adjustable, silicone finger sleeve which further cushioned your squishy hands from that evil bully, yo-yo string. It was like Yo-Tape that you could use again and again… or would have been, if ANYONE had EVER wanted to use the Rev-G more than once. Sadly, this is the kind of product you get when otherwise intelligent people get together to design something they know nothing about. Revolution was a kite company. Know what would happen if I tried designing a kite? Me either, but it would probably involve some kids in a park with subdural hematoma and a whole lotta lawsuits

Note that bolding was added by me. Being a long time kite flyer its struck me with a cold pang when he said “Revolution was a kite company” then it all hit me that they had to be the same. Hence the sad panda. lol

PS- for what its worth, Rev kits are still active and just about to release a new model (first new one in several years) just an FYI ( I really love rev kites )

your right. I thought you were talking about one of the recreation revolution yoyos, also mentioned in this thread. I had momentarily forgotten about the Rev-G, which has been dubbed by everyone who has played it as the worst yoyo in history.

Infamous can also be due to the actions of the owners. An example would be any yo-yo from Alex Kim due to the many antics he has been involved in. Something similar could also be said for Heath Vizer after the incident with Vs. Newton a couple years back.

As for notoriously bad… I have played some less than great designs over the years but only one comes to mind as complete and total trash… the IYYC Breathe. I very rarely ever say a yo-yo is out right horrible, but if you gave me one of these I would probably throw it away just so no one else has to deal with it.

I would most definitely have to agree here…the “Breathe” was one of the worst yoyo’s ever made. Not only was it a complete failure because the fact it wasn’t thought out during production, but the fact they tried to make their buying customers pay $200 for a terrible attempt of a yo-yo.

I’m so glad I didn’t pull the trigger on the Breathe. I was seriously tempted because of how cool it looked, but it was just too expensive at the time.

Don’t know if this is too far back, but The Anti-yo Eetsit. So much hype for this when I was younger but it just banged my knuckles and ate string like no tomorrow. I still pick it up every now and again but I’m always wary it might bite me
