What makes a yoyo good?

Inm trying some different yoyo and i m learning the differences between one and another…but what make a yoyo a ss tier yoyo? I m in love with the wilderness but i like the horizon too. I don t like the yyf essence so i think that 4 me the best is the H shape and a width about 57 mm…what kind of yoyo could i buy with these characteristics? 4 now i tryed only horizon wilderness 7075 shutter and essence. I don’t really have specs of anything memorized, but the “best” yo-yos I own/ have played are Loadout, TopDeck, Panorama, Beater, Borealis II, Inception.

I also enjoy my Freehand One, despite it playing objectively “worse” than many of those I listed.

Honorable mentions to Kamuraiju, Y Factor, Fulvia, 888, Decade, I could go on.

There are only a few that I would consider “Not Great” and also lacking any real “fun factor” and I’m hesitant name them.

There are all kinds of things that make a yoyo good, and it really depends on the player. I’d recommend just trying things that you think look cool, whether that be shape or colorway. There are very few bad yoyos these days, and you’re already off to a great start with the yoyos youve listed.

This is like asking “what makes food good?”

It’s so preferential, you’re gonna get a million different answers.

The best yoyo is the one that makes you feel good when you throw it.

No no the answer is if a yoyos spins its good.

Wilderness is an excellent wide yoyo but it’s only 52mm wide. What makes you want 57mm?

to be honest: Having one. That makes the biggest difference.

I think what makes an S-tier or legendary yoyo is a well balanced combination of fun and performance. Some yoyos perform very well but feel stale for some reason while others are very fun but lack performance and can be frustrating. This can obviously be subjective but the ones that stand out the most are usually praised by a majority of players for a reason. They balance the two so well that it’s indisputably “good” regardless of your skill level and experience. When you throw it down and start working through your tricks, you can feel the magic.

And that’s why I love the Top Deck.

Top Deck really does capture a lot of the “good YoYo” spirit. It looks good, it’s shaped comfortably, it’s powerful, it’s stable, it’s forgiving, sturdy material, satisfying bind “ping”, all around great throw.

What makes a yoyo even better is when it stalls on the string. (0A reference and a joke, kinda.)

Pink and purple yoyos play best :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::purple_heart::two_hearts:

The answer is simple–if it’s a “Weird Pal,” then it’s good!

In all reality though, there’s no “Good Answer” to this question–it’s much too subjective.

Thank you all 4 the answers…i don t wanna waste money so i would understand what make the wilderness so user friendly for my experience…i throw with the same hand but the spin is really stronger…i can catch it easier than the shutter or the essence…the horizon is similar but for me not so good…so what kind of things have i to chooose to buy a similar wilderness yoyo?of another brand obviously… i m a beginner but i wanna improve my technique and expand my collection with other yoyos but i would like to buy something similar…what make this yoyo so good for me?the bearing?the shape?weight?width?

Weight distribution is also a key factor along with Diameter and Width. Shape is personal preference, what is comfortable for you to hold and catch, tho arguably V/H shapes are performance oriented, organic C shapes are comfy.

Bearings are inconsequential, as they can be swapped around.

The wilderness is a big yoyo. It’s 52mm wide, which makes it easy to land tricks and makes it more stable. It also has a pretty big diameter. The bigger diameter gives more rotational force (longer spins, more power, etc)

I don’t recall the weight but it isn’t very heavy. It still feels light and nimble.

If something similar is what you’re looking for, look for a yoyo that’s wider than 47mm, bigger diameter than 56mm, and weighs 65g or so. You’d probably like a V or H shape. The wilderness is all catch zone. So if you want the same kind of feel stay away from organic shapes.

Or just cough up the money and buy a dinosaur in the wild
