So what is the finish type shown below called? It isn’t a fade, right?, because the separation between the two colors is a hard line; there is no “fading” from one to the other going on.
I would just refer to this as a fade still. There’s just varying levels of fades you can achieve, and this just happens to be a really sharp fade. People sometimes refer to yoyos that have the rims a different ano color as “dipped rims.” To my knowledge fades are achieved using basically the same technique as the “rim dips.” Just with the yoyo halves dipped into the dye at a different orientation.

I always called it a “hard” fade. As in, the colors are split by a hard line. Fades with colors that blend in the middle I call soft fades. In the end I don’t think it rly matters much but thats my 2 cents.
We always call it ‘fade’ to keep things consistent, sometimes fades just turned out that way. Something like ‘color split’ or ‘two tone’ might be more appropriate though.
