that’s why i asked what ppl think about their own collections. if it were an objective topic id just google and do research. I’m not assembling a shopping list, it’s just a fun question. don’t overthink it
I’ve never played one, but I imagine something like the El Mijo would fit in this conversation (though maybe not versatile in the way the OP meant).
If we’re talk stock yoyos in my collection, probably the Shooting Star, since it comes ready for responsive & unresponsive 1A, has a fingerspin dimple, and can do all the grinds. In the sense the author defined, I’d say my CPP would be the one yoyo I kept (just can’t thumb grind).
Then I must say the first one that comes to mind is the Art Grail, if I were not to overthink it.
I know it doesn’t make a lot of sense.
I only own a few yoyos, but the one I’d say is a good workhorse is actually my Canon. Spins for days, can go fast when you want it to, a bit in the narrow side so great for tech, and has the smoothest finish I’ve ever seen.
Speedaholic XX new gen easily can handle anything thrown at it, only downside being plastic but it plays like top tier mono tbh
In terms of versatility for 1a i think either the alu distortion or the devotion are some really good contenders. But thats my preference since i generally think that that shape is comfy for me. A couple others could be the clyw orca and the toru0.999 which are all powerful and amazing to learn any trick on
I’d say my most versatile Monometal would be the YoyoFriends Graviton:Y, with the TopYo Faceless being my most versatile plastic.
Both are powerful, stable and have great spin times, but they aren’t fatiguing or overly fast/slow pace wise, which makes them super fun to do lots of trick types with them, as well as just general fun mindless throwing.
Well to me, if a yoyo is going to be versatile, that equates to high performance. A low performing yoyo seems always less versatile than a high performing one, so I choose the MK1 HD.
That’s also an intesting thought.
So that gives me 2 choices really.
So for your idea…my current most versatile is the iYoyo Explosion. That thing I can really do anything I can with.
For most versatile style wise…my LBD Bangerang. It can play virtually any style apart from 2a and 3a (it could if I had 2 of them though). Including 0a, 4a and one handed looping.
It’s just THAT modular.
Oh I didn’t realise we were talking versatility across different styles.
Well I’m not sure what I’d choose yet.
I mean..no wrong answer.
Hades for sure
For how I play. Freehand One, Weekender, possibly the deeper state
I really value my throws that can do 0A and 1A
ETA: if you’re focusing on just landing modern unresponsive tricks. Canopy, MK1 HD & Alchemik Talent
I mean the mod44 literally changes to a different YoYo with some rims so might be that
Unresponsives can do lots of the 0a tricks also fwiw. They wont return w a tug but you can still bind and stall instead of catching them and then like kickflip or regen into stm or whatever. Pretty fun to play 0a w unresponsives actually! Fun to think about which binds will flow best w those kinda tricks imo
Ig my point is that responsives and unresponsives describe the yoyos and 0a and 1a describe the trick set
I’ve seen these bind stalls done, no clue how it’s done.
Yeah essentially just bind and cut into the string before the yoyo winds all the way up for a trapeze stall or whatever. Gotta fool w the power bc theyre kinda tricky if there is a ton of spin left like way easier if the yoyo is spinning at lower rpms before the bind bc then there is a more flexible timing window to cut into the string. Easier to do off some binds vs others but mechanically it should be possible to stall in some way off any bind like doesn’t need to be a special bind or anything
Duncan crescendo, sputnik mount, wildless, or ultracut
All of them feel super comfortable for me
This is excellent, thank you
