Actually it was on sale for $90 on their website and it does have an aluminum ring in the cup making it a bimaterial. Kinda. Lol. It is a pleasure to play with though. I love the shape
POM is a separate material, so if it wasn’t identified as such and every other color is PC, the white and yellow versions of a yo-yo are almost certainly PC too. (POM/Delrin versions are usually a little higher priced.)
Plastic Fulvia and the other Luftverks are definitely machined PC. I’m not even sure the process that Jeffrey Pang developed for that line could be done in POM/Delrin.
You really need a strong backlight to see the translucence of POM (like the actual Sun). If you just really enjoy that quality, PC is still the best.
POM/Delrin often has a waxy or even bar-soap like quality (IMO). If that sounds awful, steer clear. But it can also have a soft feeling that I don’t get from PC (molded or machined).
I was in love with unresponsive yoyos for years and a couple of years ago I had just grown tired. A good friend turned me on to the 0A style and it was just like being a kid again (honestly, it still is.) I know that 0A is still niche in an already niche hobby, but I must say, to anyone reading this, it is very much worth checking it out. The cost of entry is cheap, a regular Duncan Butterfly is one of the best for this style.
And there are tons of awesome bearing yoyos that are setup to play responsive which work great for 0A too
I’ve been playing the Sorbet from them for the past week…now I want a Milky.
I’ve not tried any others to compare it to but I think it’s a great yoyo that feels so silky smooth
Thank you for such a detailed explanation of POM. I don’t own any then! Yeah I know before the machined plastics POM seemed to be there still. Once they started machining polycarb they don’t seem as special. Still a place for them like with anything. If this is a bit wrong somehow I apologize but I got the gist of what you’re saying.
Just wanted to add my contribution to this thread as I’ve basically only been playing with my plastics lately. Here are a few thoughts on the ones in my collection that are more relevant in 2026.
Yoyofriends AOE
The cheapest of the lot. Good as a beginner option but you get what you pay for. Feels quite heavy and cumbersome on the string. Spin time and stability not great.
Yoyorecreation PNIR (white - I think POM?)
Looks cool and has awesome fingerspin capabilities. Surface is also good for finger grinds. My issue is that it feels slightly heavy (perhaps the translucent ones are lighter ss I’m assuming they’re PC?) and I also wish it was a little bit more stable. Still a great yoyo that I reach for often.
DocPop D.I.Y
Absolutely phenomenal! Feels very light and floaty on the string, but also spins long enough and has enough stability. This is on par with other metal and higher end organics in my collection in terms of performance. Probably my favourite yoyo at the moment.
Dressel Designs Apollo
Another great yoyo. Feels manuevreable but also very stable. I don’t feel like its inferior in performance when compared to metal yoyos. I’m considering picking up a couple more to make a competition set for 5a next year.
Molded POM is a thing, YYJ yoyos like the Lyn Fury for example.
The ■■■■■■■■■■ Sage Classic is also made from an injection molded POM. It’s not Delrin, though. It is a different POM called Celcon. I assume Celcon is better suited for molding, and Delrin is better for machining?
Celcon is just a brand name of POM, just like Delrin.
You’re not wrong but I don’t think that’s really relevant here. You can get barstock for whatever, I assume celcon was just chosen because it was cheap lol.
I believe that both can be machined or injection molded.
Broadly speaking, I believe that injection molding is better for high-volume production, but at the cost of precision achievable by CNC machining.
It sounds like Celcon is both cheaper and has some properties that make it more forgiving for injection molding. It’s always hard to say how relevant these industrial material summaries are to something like a yoyo though.

Are the Luftverk designs injection molded over the hub, and then machined? Or is the hub pressed in?
Luftverks are molded in a single blank configuration and then machined into various models.
Injection molding is kind of an economy of scales thing generally, because having a mold made is way more expensive than machining a small run of yoyos.
I think what Luftverk did kind of bridges the gap economics wise, their technique let’s them use a cheaper mold than a fully molded yoyo and less machine time than a fully machined yoyo.
Using a single mold across many designs would cut a lot of marginal cost per design.
