Nautilus with custom brass spike SE
God every time I see the green on the dahlia I want one more.
I’ve owned both and I can say for certain that the 888 is hands down the best. Skyline isn’t bad but the 888 has that x factor some yoyos have and others just lack.
Where did you buy those custom SEs?
hello, I didn’t buy them, I modified them with my lathe, they have an angle of 30 degrees, compared to the 60 of the originals.
how would you describe this yoyo for competition play?
Not to answer for @Yoyogeek15 or anything - but let’s just say if you don’t do well in a comp using the Spultra, it definitely isn’t the yoyo that’s the problem.
2nd place US Nats
1st place PNWR
1st place MWR
1st place GCR
All Spultra… 'Nuff said.
Okay okay not really … since you did ask how it is, here’s my thoughts/mini review:
Basically, it’s wide but light feeling on the string. Kinda reminiscent of the way the Shutter Wide angle feels if you’ve ever tried one, but much higher quality feeling due to the 7068 and slightly less glossy finish. And the angles obviously aren’t as extreme as the Wangle, it’s a lot more comfortable on the catch. My own personal opinion on it is that I wish it was just like… a total of .5 grams heavier overall with the weight placed somewhere on the rims, since it ever so slightly lacks spin power to me… but obviously as you can see Hunter has no issues with that lol and I primarily use bimetals that spin for days, not too many monos. Despite that I will say that it is probably my current favorite monometal.
A VERY important note though is that you can really see how it fits Hunter’s playstyle specifically, and if you’re not trying to do similar tricks, it may actually hinder you. Since it’s wide, it’s perfect for his risky catches/use of zoning. However, if you’re primarily a tech player, that extra width is just gonna get in the way and you’ll probably hate your life a bit while using it. What’s interesting though is that it doesn’t FEEL super wide because the catch zone is like… an average catch zone, it’s just those rounded rims that are really adding to the width. But nonetheless, it still is that wide though and if you’re a tech player you’re probably not gonna have a good time.
So basically just keep your own play style in mind when deciding to purchase. I will say it is probably one of the most comfortable mono comp throws out there rn, those rounded rims are something you’d find on an organic yoyo but they translate really well here and make the hand feel 10/10. Up there with the IQ, 7075 Supernova and Genesis for my favorite YYF’s.
This yoyo is on an other level when it comes to performance! I think it’s by far one of the best comp mono metal throws you could buy! It is INSANELY good. I feel as if this yo-yo hits that all-around category so it basically excels at everything. I feel as if the weight distribution is not entirely on the rims but rather evenly distributed throughout the body of the yo-yo so it has excellent control. Plus the binds are absolutely phenomenal! it’s extremely satisfying
And thanks (@SR1) Spence for the very detailed review! I agree with pretty much everything you said @Boy I HIGHLY recommend that you get one if your able to. You won’t regret it
Now that Duncan has entered the AI market, will these obsolete the old yo-yos with a brain?
Time will tell I guess.
Brain yoyo will outlive us all don’t be silly.
Mg. Time to give the radix a break.
forgot my yo-yos, throwing nothing today
This has been the go to throw for the past month. Goes everywhere with me
Enso Full Metal Demascus!
Hope everyone has been doing well
I’ve pretty much only thrown the Klondike like… 95% of the time for the past few months, but it’s fun to get a little mix going every once and awhile.
Fav bimetal, Klondike.
Fav mono, Spultra.
Fav organic, Creep.
And then a throwback/something totally fun for a palate cleanser… PGM. Got this one 14ish years ago.
