I just bought this in a local toy store.
thats a throwback yoyo for me haha- have fun with it, if you can get it to play consistently unresponsive its a really fun small organic
I have some really old models of the maverick. After cleaning the bearings and sanding down the pads quite a bit, they play great!
I’ve seen some hate for this and other yomega yoyos and don’t quite understand because my experience with the 3 I have (2 maverick, 1 dash) is pretty dang good. Only mild complaint is the the dash feels a bit heavy.
i agree, super fun yoyo
I got my collapsar and ordinal 1 and these are fantastic. I’m not a fan of heavy yoyos but the collapsar hits in a different way.
Not technically today, but Top Deck, Bowl 7068 and Contact. The topdeck is a replacement for one I sold, probably my favorite playing OD after the MC. Bowl 7068 is just magical, I was hoping to sate my desire for a tiBowl but if anything I want one more now. Contact is great and the shiny green is very eye catching.
Great mail day here. Zero buyer’s remorse. Always wanted a Tourney. Looks great with the Blood Red B+ Kapow from @MattB Yo-Yo String Lab. GBP from @Earthbound8426 feels like it’s made of Reynolds Wrap it’s so light - that’s meant to be a compliment btw - I love it. The Don from @jeduardo Zero Gravity was needed after reading so many people talk about it, particularly @Theycallmecotton and it did not disappoint. Strung it with the first thing on my counter and it binds clean so no need for a search for the right string to make it play well.
The Don is so Fire
Can’t put it down.
Mail day! I’ve finally got my Antithesis in the mail!
I feel like I should preface this by saying that I do like the Antithesis a lot, it’s a great throw. Anyone who is looking to get an Antithesis should absolutely get one because it’s amazing. But the experience when I got the yoyo really leaves much to be desired.
The package came in the mail, but it was missing a lot of items. Nearly 80% of what was supposed to be included in the halfway package (I’m international so the halfway package comes together with the yoyo) was missing. I’ve already sorted it out with Thesis Yoyos, but it still leaves a bad taste.
Furthermore, the Antitheses that I got cuts strings. I have the blasted gray and the blasted rose gold versions. I was enjoying my time with the Antithesis for about an hour before the string snapped on my horizontal throw and the yoyo flew into the wall. Now I have some dings on my brand new Antithesis, but that’s fine, I can just make it my EDC. Except that I can’t because it cuts strings. I can’t even play with it really. Thing is, the blast was not heavy or super rough at all. It felt like a light matte finish on my hand, so I didn’t expect it to cut strings. It’s also not blasted at the bearing and response area so it’s even more mind-boggling. The bearing is alright as well, not loud or noisy and definitely not locked up so I have no idea why it cuts strings. My strings are high quality Zipline Alphaline which don’t break on any of my other throws so it’s definitely not the fault of the string. I’ll try rubbing denim at the bearing and response area to see if it helps, but I’m guessing it’s not going to do much to alleviate the problem. Here’s some pictures of the strings that it cut:
The top one is the string that I replaced the previous string with. I removed it before it broke.
The bottom one is the string that the yoyo cut.
So yeah, definitely not a great mail day and the experience really leaves much to be desired. On to the yoyo though.
The Antithesis is pretty light and plays quite nimbly, but it’s not the most agile yoyo ever. It’s actually slower than the Hummingbird and it’s kinda on par with the 7075 Mowl Surveillance in terms of how easy it is to move on the string. It’s actually quite floaty and I found doing Eli Hops on it is much easier with how long it stays in the air. It’s easier to catch the Antithesis compared to my Hummingbird and 7075 Mowl Surveillance while doing Eli Hops (though the Antithesis is also wider so yeah). It also grinds decently with its light matte finish, but it’s grinding ability doesn’t even come close to the Hummingbird, and it’s much worse compared to the 7075 Mowl Surveillance. It’s quite stable, but also not the most stable yoyo out there. It’ll handle 10 of my sloppy Eli Hops with quite a bit of tilt (a little more than 45°), which is quite a bit worse than my bimetals and my Titanic (obviously), but I am still able to get it back to my hand. On horizontal, it’s light weight but insufficient agility (for it’s weight) really makes it much more difficult to control than even the G2 GBP (which is really light but is super nimble on the string), especially when I’m trying to do really tiny trapezes and undermounts. The yoyo just can’t seem to change directions fast enough to catch up with me to do those tiny trapezes and undermounts and it’s light weight means it moves much faster than something like the 7075 Mowl Surveillance, so I end up missing those tricks like every single time. I think I’m kinda rusty at horizontal having not played yoyo in a while but I find that such tricks are much easier to pull off on my 7075 Mowl Surveillance, which is heavier but has similar agility so it moves slower and hence it changes direction in time to catch the string instead of the string just dropping off. But all in all, the Antithesis is still a great yoyo to play with if you like light throws but don’t want them to be too nimble on the string and like the floaty feeling. It’s also relatively cheap for a titanium yoyo that is blasted and anodised, and it still comes with a ton of stuff in the halfway package.
Great, honest review! I really hope you can resolve the string-snapping issue which I think you will. Maybe in time you will learn to love both and their characteristics. It’s a bummer when I read about stuff like this.
Thank you! I really hope so too! A blasted titanium as an EDC is pretty much the best EDC for me.
What is it?
Did you try rubbing the inner walls with denim just to see if it helps?
This is Kyo`s Toys Tinman. Titanium yoyo, coated with diamond spraying.
