What did you get in the mail today? 2021

You could order the new freshly dirty yoyo and just keep getting/making new rims for it. Would kinda count haha

How do you make new rims for a bimetal? I had to say enough is enough. Buying yoyos as a form of emotional therapy is a dead end. No matter how many yoyos I bought I’d end up playing the same 5-6 that I already had because I liked them better. I am shifting a lot of yoyos I don’t throw anymore to my apprentice. I like it when a few people here say they keep their collection small and they only get something new when they move something out.

Freshly Dirty is releasing a throw next Friday called the mod44 which is a aluminum “core” w/ swappable POM (?) rims, sorta similar to the Core Co Standard.

Are the newer G2 lifes machined in China, or at OD?

Nice one!

I still believe those are from OD to best of my knowledge. However those reverse rainbow roads have been diamond blasted, so I don’t know who Jake has to do that finish.

I feel like Jake would disclose that info if he changed manufacturers. Part of the draw of the Life was the fact that it was manufactured by One Drop. Is it really a Life if it wasn’t done by One Drop?

So far I’ve been explaining my feelings like this:

It’s like Monkey Finger exists in an alternate universe. Like all the design and machining improvements from the last decade are still there in the MonkeyFinger universe, but the aesthetics haven’t been shaped exclusively by 10 years of yo-yo leaning into competition 1a.

So it’s like I’m throwing the next cool boutique yo-yo in 2009 but made with modern design standards.

it’s a nice universe too…

Got this mg from @Grendel today and threw in some painted taka caps to give it a little extra flare.

Lent a couple of yos out to a good forum friend of mine (@ryanmcg) and just had them sent back to me. He threw in a pack of strings for me! Not sure what they are (waiting to hear back from him) but I’m pretty sure they’re from BadWolfeCo.

Also yesterday I received a Duncan Butterfly AL…a gift from @Grapes and @r3stless. Freaking love the little thing! Been wanting to pick one up since they released but I’ve just kept pushing it off. Well now I finally have one in my collection!

I feel guilty that people are still being so damn nice to me…even though I’m not very active at all anymore in the community. I use to be so enthusiastic here on the forums, but I’ve drifted away. I suppose now that I think about it…a lot of people do this.

But thank you guys. Everyone. So many people have been super bad ■■■■■■■ cool to me over the last couple of years. /BroLove you guys! :hearts:

how are you liking the butterfly AL? I’m currently struggling to not pull the trigger on one, I have some travel coming up for work and the width of the butterfly AL is perfect for my briefcase.

Those strings are mine. Looks like “Purple Haze” colorway if I’m not mistaken. Pure nylon. Hope you enjoy them! And thanks @ryanmcg for sharing the love!

The burnout rate in this hobby is insane. I have never personally seen anything like it. Sucks you in, consumes your passion, and burns you out with the frequent and neverending drops. Then you step away for a break before jumping back into the madness. Just consider the turnover in names you see from posts on here from 2 years ago to now… 80% different.

Part of that may also be due to the fact that younger throwers have a lot of other distractions drawing their attention away as they get older. School, dating, first jobs, new hobbies, etc.

I think everyone needs a break from their hobbies so I understand not being as active on the boards. Just remembered to keep a couple of your throws and in 3 or 4 years you’ll see them and have your passion reignited. I feel like I see a bunch of people coming back after 3,5, or even 10 years of hiatus.
