It plays a bit on the heavy side IMO. Has a bit of a thud when it hits the end of the string. Even though it’s heavy it feels kind of bouncy in play. Initially I wasn’t a huge fan of it but it’s growing on me. Feels like it takes it a second to get moving but then flows really well once it is. Has a ton of spin. Stability is kind of eh but I suppose that’s to be expected with the shape. Binds are pretty good.
I got a monometal acadia this week as well which is seriously good and is more like my typical type of yoyo. It’s fast, floaty, powerful, and changes directions easily. The Mgska is like on the complete opposite side of the spectrum.
I dunno I havn’t spent enough time with it to really say how I feel for sure. One thing I will say is the Mgska is dead smooth which is pretty impressive for a painted yoyo. I’m very curious to try one of the non painted ones since I think I heard they are slightly less heavy.
That’s great, good thing he had an extra. I feel that the debate on keeping boxes doesn’t even apply to RSOs - the detail that Elvin puts into them makes them keepsakes for sure!
Today I got a little experiment in the mail. This is a Duncan Pro Z modified to remove the starburst response, add flush Core Co response pads, and give the yoyo a smooth “satin” finish for tape measure type tricks. I got this idea when I saw the Zipline Wood Z was based on the Duncan Pro Z. With a greased up A-bearing this thing is a really fun Modern Responsive/OA style throw. Huge thank you to @pyrotechnic for doing the mods for me! If anyone is interested, he mods classic Duncan throws and handled this request for me with really quick turn around.
Considering the cost of the yoyo, the cost of the modifications, and the cost of shipping this is the cheapest and most accessible way to get an A-Bearing, Core Co response pad featuring throw for modern responsive style play. The other options out there are there are considerably more rare and expensive. Obviously, a fixed axle is cheaper and easier to come across, but fixies dont play the same as bearing responsive.
Ultimately this thing plays surprisingly good. The response is snappy and predictable, and stalls/flips feel nice and controlled. Full disclosure, immediately after greasing the bearing I threw it for the first time and was a little let down. The response was hit or miss, and sometimes was too slippy to control exiting a stall. After a few minutes of throwing the grease settled and the pads broke in and it plays basically exactly how I expected.
57mm x 28mm, 2.5mm gap, 51.7g with caps 45.4g without. Basically perfect responsive specs.
Just got a responsive, really looking forward to expanding my responsive skills. Couldn’t find the blue green fade but this 48 hour edition is really unique, like a complete half swap
