Stellar shots my man
That thing looks naaAsssty
My MFD bsp Edgerton arrived at my moms house in America. Now I just need to wait until she sends me another package with that included.
This makes the 3rd of 4 yoyos to gather until shipped all together at once. The last is a OD rally and some string
Got a second hand Nimbus (佛光) by Szlab x theYoyolab
To me, this is one of the very few yoyo that performs at the Draupnir level. Probably THE best yoyo of all time that is manufactured in China.
Made me speechless.
this one is super hard to find too
That’s true… I guess I was lucky
No offense, when you say it performs at the level of the Draupnir, which aspects are you referring to? I remember not long ago you said you were new to yoyoing so I’m just curious
Mailday! Was supposed to post this like 2 days ago but the reviews have taken me way too long. Got the YYF 44, Dressel Designs Assassin, Zipline Alphaline, MFD Gorillius Lubricus and a Sochi axle (just for the free shipping hahaha).
YYF 44
I love the YYF 44, it’s undersized and so light! It moves effortlessly on the string and will change direction in absolutely no time at all. It also moves extremely quickly along the string, faster than all my light throws (and I own quite a few). It’s the only one that allows me to understand when people say that the yoyo moves too fast for them. Even with the G2 GBP (48g), it wasn’t difficult to keep up with it but the YYF 44 is so speedy it takes some skill to keep up with it. But I still love it. It’s so stable as well, I would say it’s as stable as the lowerKase. I can do 15 of my sloppy Eli Hops without it tilting too much. I don’t even need to correct the yoyo in the middle of doing those Eli Hops. It’s insane. For $44, it’s a steal for being almost fully made in the USA. I highly recommend it to people who want something very very different and like nimble and speedy yoyos. The ano however, is a hit or miss. My purple one is decent, though it’s a bit lacking on the pink wash. The blue one though, one half has way too much white wash and the other is a bit lacking on the white wash as well. But I guess I can’t complain at that price. I’ll just use the ugly half on the right as my EDC. A yoyo rarely becomes my EDC so it’s pretty high praise from me hahaha.
Zipline Alphaline
The Zipline Alphaline is awesome. It’s the best bulk string I have used to this date and I have almost the entire bulk string section on Yoyoexpert in normal size (if possible). I’m going to be comparing it to Sochi normal because that’s the string I was using before I got the Alphaline. Like the Sochi normal, the Alphaline has a layer of oil on it, probably because it’s using Sochi production processes. But the layer of oil on the Alphaline is much less than on the Sochi normal, which is great, my stuff won’t get so oily now. It handles whips and slacks really well and holds its tension much better than Sochi normal. It also lasts much longer, even with my sweaty palms annihilating strings. The Alphaline lasts pretty much twice as long as Sochi normals and stays playing well for a lot longer than Sochi normals. It’s also quite a bit softer than Sochi normals, such that I can practice my 1.5 hops without burning my fingers with the string. It’s also slightly thicker than Sochi normal and my binds are now more consistent. The Sochi normals keep slipping on the bind on my Ti-Vayder but now with the Alphaline, they slip much less. The Alphaline is now my string of choice hahaha.
Dressel Designs Assassin
Honestly, I’m not a big fan of the Assassin, sorry @hobbygod. I have tried to like it, but I couldn’t. Now guys, put down your pitchforks and torches and sit around and listen to this. I know lots of people love the Assassin but I’m not one of them. I have used both the flat D bearing and the concave one. I’ve been playing the Assassin back to back with the Euphonious yesterday and I find that I like the Euphonious better. Playing with the Assassin reminded me of why I dislike super-wide yoyos (diameter to width ratio less than 1.2, the Assassin has a ratio of 1.1). The Assassin is inherently more unstable than the Euphonious due to its larger width and its shape doesn’t do it any favours.
Looking at the profile of the Assassin, you can see that the majority of the width is taken up by the large organic rims. In keeping the weight low, the weight of the yoyo has to be spread over these large organic rims which make the yoyo’s weight more evenly distributed and hence less stable due to less weight concentrated at the very end of the yoyo. A lot of the weight is mid-weight. It’s also not very catchable. The large organic rims also limit the catch zone and you’ll see that the yoyo has a relatively small effective catch zone in the middle of the yoyo. This is evident when I can more consistently hit Eli Hops on the Euphonious than I can on the Assassin. The Assassin also feels pretty hefty on the string and it’s a reluctant mover. So much so that I thought someone must have sabotaged my package and injected mercury into my yoyos. It plays much heavier than what I expected after hearing about the characteristics of the yoyo from @hobbygod. He compared it to the Euphonious, saying it plays lighter than the Euphonious. This is true, as the Assassin is lighter than the Euphonious, though I found the Assassin to play only slightly lighter than the Euphonious and the difference isn’t very obvious. The weird thing is when it comes to moving the yoyo and changing directions. I found that I needed more effort to pull off my tricks at a fast pace on the Assassin than on the Euphonious. It takes quite a bit more energy to make the Assassin move which is disappointing as I expected it to move with ease through the string without much pushing since it’s lighter. Its large width makes it only 0.5mm narrower than the Ti-Vayder, which doesn’t make it very pocketable either. The D bearing does exactly as advertised, and even at low spins can still bind extremely well, which is great. It is most obvious when I’m snap starting my yoyos, the Assassin noticeably binds better than the lowerKase. But I think the D bearing contributes at least a little to the Assassin’s hefty feeling on the string. All in all, I think it’s still a good yoyo (no yoyo is truly bad nowadays, save for the RCS Dumpster Fire), but it just didn’t meet my expectations of it after hearing about how great it plays. I’ll try it after a month or so and see if my opinion has changed. Maybe this one needs to grow on me or something.
No worries! I still consider myself as a newbie in the yo-yo world. I’m by no means a good reviewer but I think I was talking about the balance between speed, stability and maneuverability. I personally prefer yo-yo under 64g because they seems to accelerate faster and change direction promptly. But that often come at a price of some stability & spin time.
For me Draupnir & Nimbus exceeded my expectation on all these aspects.
This is really subjective as well…
I agree about the Assassin I was a definitely disappointed. It’s better then the lowerKase but only because it’s lighter. The 44 is quite fun I didn’t like the glossy finish but that is a minor thing. I’ll throw it in a pocket and play it over the assassin any day.
Alphaline…yep!!
For me, I actually prefer the lowerKase just because it moves more easily than the Assassin and is slightly more stable. Both feel pretty similar on the string tbh.
After those two I will be very hesitant about any steel yoyo’s in future. Closest thing to what I imagine throwing a string on a door knob must be like.
The steel bowl D bearing looks cool
