Victor Borge is such a good example of someone who is a piano player, but most of his act is just talking to the audience as his character. Like his audience wouldn’t describe seeing him perform as going to see a pianist, they went to see Victor Borge!
The “character” of Zammy ended up being a set of characteristics mashed together to end up “creating” Zammy sort of speak. The idea of a “larger then life” character usually means when you take your natural personality and amp it up times 10. This has been done in many different things, most notabley in Professional Wrestling.
While I do have a real name, in the community and anything associated with yoyo I am known by the name “Zammy”. People that bring that name up generally know the following traits: He defends and plays Moebius. He loves Pizza. And he is a loud mouth hyper active individual that loves yoyos.
My actual personality is I am more quiet and reserved vs hyper and sarcastic. So when physically at contests its like my personality changes to be more approachable, socialable and overall jolly.
Over the past 20 years there has been throwers that have developed stage/nick names. Most just have their names shorted down and it sticks. If you were to say “Sebby”- you would instantly know we are all talking about Sebastian Brock. But there is a number of folk that take it further- such as say Doc Pop- whom really has their personality shine in the form of a character. One could argue the character really is the person.
Just my two thoughts.
