Should I use concave bearings or flat bearings? And can i clean beaings without lighter fluid?
Concave bearings are great! They keep the string centered throughout your tricks which make the yo-yo spin longer!
The safest way to lube a bearing is with yo-yo oil!
Hope this helps!
If you’re starting out, concave bearings will help keep the yoyo centered better than a flat bearing and make learning tricks a lot easier.
I use both. I like flat bearings in most of my One Drops because they feel better, they’re quieter, and smoother with the caveat of having to be more aware of plane management.
Lighter fluid, acetone, and 99% alcohol are the most commonly suggested solvents for cleaning bearings. I’ve used lighter fluid for years with no issues.
I would like to recommend Center-Trac brarings too. These are an excellent standard.
can i use the alcohal alone or I have to use it with the lighter fluid?
You can use any one of those solvents by itself to clean a bearing. I soak mine in 99% alcohol for about 15 minutes, agitate it, and then air dry or blow it out with compressed air.
Acetone, odorless mineral spirits, and lighter fluid is the magic lube combo for me.
