The Kapital is a surprising beast of a throw. It is quickly becoming one of my go-to throws for messing with new tricks and other general play. The controversy over it made me buy one, and im glad I did.
how does it play?
is the butterfly XT worth it if i really want to learn modern responsive/0A (also tempted by responsive 5a after watching some of DocPops videos). wondering if i should go with this, the normal butterfly, or just grab the legend wing my gut is telling me to. I can support a real brick/mortar toy store with the duncan’s which is why they’re so tempting (sorry YYE lol)
I like both, but I prefer the legend wing. It’s the one I reach for more often. It seems like it hits kickflips more easily and develops better response for 0a (for my taste, at least).
The bearing in the butterfly XT might allow you to get more spin time though
I sat on the fence with this one for awhile, but I’m sure glad I decided to go ahead and buy one.
It’s a full-sized organic that feels comfy in the hand, but sacrifices very little in performance. My two favorite full-sized organics from the last year are the Atmos Cloudberry and the MK1 Contact. I’m liking the Kapital every bit as much as those two yoyos.
The controversy also made me pull the trigger. Loving those artisan anodize marks!
I also really really like the red, white, and blue string it came with. It made for the perfect throw this 4th of July!
Get them both!
For a 5/6 dollar throw, the XT is excellent. It has a snappy response out of the package and can take a beating, an easy choice for 5&0a play.
I’ve heard only good things about the Wing as well.
I prefer the YYF Whip to the butterfly. It has response pads in it rather than star response, which makes it a little better imho.
Is that for 0A/responsive 5A or in general?
Just comparing to the Duncan Butterfly XT as a responsive yo-yo (and obviously just an opinion, they’re both good). Neither the Whip nor XT are fixed axle so they’re hard to compare to a Legend Wing (which I think is a wood fixed axle yoyo).
If you have a Hobby Lobby near you, they usually have YYF Whips. That’s my favorite for a cheap
responsive yo-yo. I keep one in my car door pocket just in case.
In this context it was more for responsive 5a.(i.e. DocPops workshop)
The wing is an obvious choice for pure 0a, and while you can do fixing tricks on a responsive, the low walls of the whip just make it difficult.
The high walls of the XT are what attract me to it as a way to dip my feet into real responsive, I’m guessing that with a greased bearing the XT would be pretty close to a fixie
Why not just get a regular Butterfly if you want a straight-up fixie?
The walls on the Whip and the XT look like they have a pretty similar profile, though the XT is a little bit bigger so the walls might be taller for that reason. I have both, but I haven’t really done much of the Doc Pop modern unresponsive tutorial beyond the stall (and I didn’t use either of those for that). But if you only want to try one of them, get the one that calls to you. I like the XT enough and if I didn’t have a Whip, it would probably be what I use to do the first block on the trick ladder.
TinMan from My most excellent friend Kyle. I forget how many there are but it’s a small number for the entire world.
Your tinman almost looks polished with all the use! Nice!
