That’s beutiful
I have a PSP-1000, what mods would you suggest?
I only have the Shortcut! But I love the Shortcut and kept finding myself reaching for it even though I have plenty of other, “nicer” throws. The Crosscut feels very similar, but not exactly the same. It’s faster, it feels more nimble, and it goes tiiing lol
Holy Grail
Imo, in order of priority:
-A custom microsd with a converter for the memory stick
-Soft modding with custom firmware (never use videos, always use a website that’s updated regularly)
-IPS screen mod (the PSP 1k default screen is a bit… underwhelming.)
-A better battery, as the stock ones are both meh and tend to die very easily
-Shell/button mods are for aesthetics if you end up wanting to!
So you lnow Tis i just started dipping my toe in that pond and i want to just say ■■■■ it and jump in at the end of the day are they worth it hobby wise or are they more a status symbol. Quicl question do people really pay hundreds of dollars for more times than not a limited piece of throw.history and spark that ■■■■■■ pn the ground? Ive heard stories but doesnt seem real
(WARNING/WARNING, to those with Attention Deficit or lack of patience inability or unwillingness to read LONG posts because you already know all you need to survive, I would suggest that you STOP RIGHT HERE).
Well, my answer might be a little different that most others in response to your questions…
First of all, I NEVER buy any yo-yo as a ‘status symbol’.
Who would be my target to impress? I have over 1500 yo-yos. I don’t expect to impress anybody including myself. Yo-yos, to me are to play with.
I have no serious opinions about those certain individuals that are willing to pay $2000 or more for a painted Peak. A few people have at least a few of them. They may play them. They may not ever play them. They may keep them in sock drawers or well lit glass display cases. But I know a few of them and they don’t care to impress anybody.
Titanium, used in making yo-yos, is a material that allows for more intricate weight distribution. More often than not the finished designs tend to have a higher performance potential. Some primary reasons Titanium yo-yos cost much more is very simple.
Titanium is a harder material to machine. It is harder on the tooling. And it is harder on the machines. And…. It takes longer to produce each half.
So, the tooling wear costs add up and the time to make each half adds up and the limited size of most batches factors in… and the markup from cost to wholesale to retail adds up. And there ya go, more expensive yo-yos.
Titanium yo-yos aren’t more expensive because they have some sort of Magical, Mystical powers. Buying a Titanium yo-yo is simply paying the price of all factors adding up to that price.
Anybody that buys a Titanium yoyo because of some Status related reason is a Pure Simpleton. If you’re Intelligent before you buy a titanium yo-yo, you will still be intelligent.
If you are an idiot before you buy a titanium yo-yo, you’ll still be an idiot
If you’re actually too poor to bounce for a titanium, yo-yo, you will be even closer to being pennyless
If you have a considerable amount of money and you buy titanium, yo-yo, you probably won’t even notice that much because the money seems like if you have enough of it.
If anybody buys a titanium yo-yo thinking that buying an expensive bulletproof, yo-yo is going to make them better faster, then I invite them to donate their brain to science. Or at the very least go get a brain scan. Trust me, it’ll come back negative.
If a person is lacking of the proper oxygen to make an educated decision and end up buying a titanium yo-yo for no other reason then they have to have one because if it’s mystical powers, and the answer to that is pretty straightforward and simple too. They will find out after a very short period of time that they might’ve been better off buying a half a dozen $70 yo-yos as opposed to buying one titanium yo-yo for $420
As far as the sparking goes, that’s where my answer will probably be diametrically opposite of most others that might even care to share their two cents.
When I was about 15, I started doing metal projects at my dad‘s house that involved a lot of grinding and things of that nature. So even way back then I’ve seen plenty of sparks. Moving ahead a couple of years before I was 18 I enrolled in a place called Harbor occupational in my hometown. I entered their welding curriculum and basically never look back. I was a professional welder in a custom shop that made hot rod Harley Davidson motorcycles. I started as an apprentice and became the head welder. I saw Sparks at least 8 to 10 hours a day a minimum of 5 to 6 days a week. And when I was home, I was doing custom side jobs that involve welding and I saw more sparks. I spent over a half century in an environment, where I see Sparks, at least several days a week all year long. I’m 73 and I still work as a structural welder fabricator. Which means I see sparks all the friggin time. And because it’s Sunday night and I work Monday through Friday second shift, that presents another opportunity to see Sparks. Because halfway through my shift, the sun falls and if I’m welding outside or underneath a vehicle, it’s so dark that I see sparks even better than the daytime.
Above paragraph was related to you for a specific reason. Of all the people that you know. Of anybody that you might talk to. To any person in the yo-yo universe that you may ask that question to About buying an expensive titanium, yo-yo and then spark a sucker right into the ground…… I’d be a monkey uncle to get a titanium yo-yo for Several hundred dollars in the grind that sucker into the pavement.
Now, in my particular instance, since I have no budget, at least in the yo-yo world, I could buy a titanium yo-yo every week and grind it into dust. But I avoid the stupid factor. See if you buy a titanium yo-yo you should buy it to enjoy it. You should buy it to learn tricks on it. You should buy it to let your friends try a couple tricks on it and accidentally jack it up a little bit. It won’t be much because titanium is so durable. You should buy a titanium yo-yo for the around and if you take good care of it you can turn around And sell it and get some money back at least because it’s in good shape. It’s still a titanium yo-yo.
On the other hand, if you’re kind of a budget, but you stick your neck out and buy a titanium yo-yo and then one impress yourself or some other genius by grinding it into the payment that’s another thing because yo-yo will instantly lose its value. The yo-yo will feel funny in the hand. And you’ll quickly run out of people to impress with your yo-yo grinding skills and sparks and then you’ll just be stuck with a sad yo-yo with peanuts.
I have at least 40 titanium yo-yos. I don’t have one titanium yo-yo that ever came with any tricks included. I don’t have one titanium yo-yo that I would ever try to sell over retail price.
I’ve never bought a single titanium yo-yo because I thought he would give me some kind of cool points or make my hat size score a little. Or giving me the potential to get into a conversation with other yo-yo players and say oh I got that one yeah and I got that one yeah and I got that one yeah. And when the other players you were talking to mentally add up the prices of all the yo-yos you admit to having, they’re going to think you print your own money or they’re gonna wonder if you’re gonna afford to put cheese on your hamburger?
People get into yo-yos for a lot of different reasons. I’ve had several people tell me they don’t even throw at all. They just like yo-yos. Some people on this board will collect every yo-yo. They can in a galaxy color way. Or some other color that they’re really enamored with. Some of the yo-yos that they buy with their favorite color way do not play as well as other yo-yos. They don’t care about that. They like the certain color way.
There’s a few people on this board that buy everyone of the yo-yo that has the unknown brand symbols on it. A bunch of black yo-yos let’s say unknown or whatever. They love them. I don’t know if they play with them, but I’m sure they display them somewhere. They may be in a case on the wall they may be on a big yo-yo case that they open up now and then and lean against the wall. But that’s what they like to do.
Some people buy yo-yos to try them and if they don’t like them that much they sell them. Sometimes the people buy the yo-yos, even if they like them the end of selling them to help subsidize the purchase of their next yo-yo to find out if they might like it even better.
There are people that collect wooden yo-yos with wooden axles and they don’t even play responsive. They just like the old-fashioned wooden yo-yo designs and they love possessing them. That’s a wonderful thing. If you have something and you enjoy it it doesn’t really matter if you know how to throw it or not because that’s not why you enjoy it. You might enjoy just staring at them, holding them showing them or whatever.
Personally, I buy yo-yos because I’m fascinated with the various designs and I like to try them. Obviously, I have a tendency to not sell them as often as other people that buy yo-yos and then move them along to somebody else. Maybe someday I’ll start selling yo-yos, like other normal people. I’m guessing the fact that I’m not close to penniless allows me to have a habit of buying yo-yos and then keeping them whether they’re really performance level yo-yos or not.
The bottom line is this simple. I think everybody that falls into the yo-yo hobby, even if they don’t stay long, is better for it. As long as you don’t spend all your money and end up losing a couple of teeth or putting a couple dents on your forehead, you had fun and you’ll have something that you remember for a long time and maybe pick up again down the line.
Yo-yos can be fun and many different levels. That’s one of the reasons their popularity has stuck around for decades. Sure, I know the popularity fluctuates up and down because there’s so many things to do in life. Some people before they leave this board, leave aYo-yos can be fun and many different levels. That’s one of the reasons they’re popularity has stuck around for decades. Sure, I know the popularity fluctuates up and down because there’s so many things to do in life. Some people before they leave this board, leave a party message saying I’m selling everything and moving onto another hobby. I usually try to message them and suggest that they keep one yo-yo and a couple of strings. I’m pretty sure even if it’s a couple years down the road don’t wanna throw something again. And you don’t have to throw a bunch of complicated tricks to have fun. You just gotta know how to make a good throwdown and do a couple of tricks and get yo-yo back to your hand.
Titanium yo-yos are a lot of fun. But if you decide to start throwing yo-yos and you make yourself a promise that you will never have more than 50 yo-yos. And you make yourself a promise that you’re gonna throw yo-yos every day for the next 50 years. Everyone of those yo-yos Can be made out of anything Or almost everything, except titanium, and you can still have a great time and learn a lot of stuff and make a lot of friends and stick with yo-yos.
Expensive titanium yo-yos are not a necessity if you just wanna have fun.
If your mind is in the right place and you don’t wanna make a big financial commitment that you’ll regret down the line, you can get a couple pretty darn good playing yo-yos in enough strings to last you a year for probably less than 60 or 70 bucks total investment.
And then if you get a promotion at work. If you get a bonus check. If a relative leaves you in their will. If you win the lottery…… Then step up to that display case that says titanium yo-yos $300 and up… Pony up sucker we got the stuff
And never look back. The End
Ti yoyos also sound cool when ppl bind them. Tinggg!
Only throw I’ve been bringing to work for weeks now, the Scrub is such a banger. Great finish for finger grinds.
yall 3a folks are so mean to yoyos…buncha yoyo bullies
What do you ~~PANGGGG~~ mean?
Fr idk how guys do it with such beautiful throws lmao, I’d go raw/clear only for that stuff I do love a good patina tho, I tried starting a heard but it didn’t get much traction.
I cleaned it up a bit, maybe it’ll work this time lol
Every yoyo looks better w 3a scuffs
Playing some newer stuff. The CLYW Peakhand which I’m enjoying a lot although the bearing wasn’t working well and replaced. Using my thinnest string Sochi C. The One Drop Rainer which is getting a lot of playtime since it arrived. Popped an NSN Concave and some Kitty FC Normal and loving it after break in period. Performs very well. And the Yoyorecreation Sa which I’m also really enjoying. Feels a bit heavier during play than it actually is. Constantly telling myself I can’t believe how well so many of the new yoyos are playing.
