What are you throwing, 2022?

I only have the Terrarian out of those two. It’s a good throw, but I like the “flatter” rim design of the Free Solo. It also seems to prefer a thinner string than what I normally use, which isn’t a bad thing, but I do like the feeling of the thicker string. I also think it’s a tad heavier than what I’d like. That’s adjustable with some Ultralights, but they weren’t available at the time. I now have some blue ones that just came in specifically for the Terrarian, so we’ll see how that changes it.

Absolutely nothing wrong with it, but the little things for me add up to a good throw, not great. That said, no plans to get rid of it either

As for the Fat Tire, it might be fun, but the more extreme design has me hesitant. There’s also not a lot of buzz about them, so I’ve not pulled the trigger. The Free Solo and Pano both get mentioned in threads about the beat ODs, etc, so it seemed like a good buy. I’m also hoping to get a Top Deck in this next run and maybe a Kuntosh at some point as those two are usually 1&2 in the mentions.

Pay it forward Pano.

Fair enough! I’ve only played the Terrarian with the stock spikes. I keep meaning to try some of the other SE’s that I have picked since.

I have resisted the Free Solo (so far), but the praise/anticipation for the Top Deck has my attention.

I really like the Thorn.

Me, too. I did try the ULs from my Deep State, but the spikes weren’t good with the slim profile of the DS, so I swapped back after a minute or two. I did think the ULs helped the Terrarian, though.

I wouldn’t hold out in the Free Solo. I was expecting it to be good, but it is phenomenal. I tried a centering bearing in it which was fantastic, but it got noisy so I switched back. I honestly think the 10 ball is part of the magic. I do not think you’ll regret getting one. It’s usually mentioned in the same sentence as the Top Deck.

The shape of the Free Solo looks great. My problem is that after finally breaking down and buying an Aitch, I’m thinking too much about other H shapes I used to be sure I didn’t want.

Freesolo is one of the best monometals imo, fast and light, long spinning and the stability is on another level. If you only have one OD, this should be it imo…
@danotje i feel the same about the string, i normally like something a little thicker than the freesolo grooves with. In that case maybe try a rev2, a little heavier but a much larger gap accepting thicker string, similar in play

I was looking at the Free Solo, but I have a Legendary Terrarian and the specs/shape are pretty similar, except for the LT having side effects and being a gram lighter(plus the sweet grooves).

Two totally different animals… and the Free Solo absolutely smokes the hell outta the LT

Free Solo is perfect with my normal Project 44 Fat. The Terrarian, however, seems to need something thinner. I like both, but the FS is just better.

I don’t have the LT, but I don’t know how much better you can get than the Free Solo. I have to admit, I think it’s dethroned the iQ from my top spot.

And it will be again that’s the beauty of it.
