So I’m thinking about making yoyo reviews however I haven’t played around with a lot of yoyos so I don’t know what yoyos feel better in specifics cases and such. Lmk what are gold standards for certain aspects of a yoyo and just as important some yoyo that have failed so I can see clearly why it matters if an aspect of a yoyo isn’t great. Thank you!
Are you prepared to do a hundred yoyo reviews? Because you’ll probably get a hundred different answers to this question. And that’s due to the fact that these days most yoyos are so good that there is no best or worst, only most favorite and least favorite for each person who responds. And even that is a constantly changing opinion as new yoyos are released each week.
To give you an example of what I mean, two of my recent favorites are the YJYOYO Galaxy Time (bimetal) and Time Slip (monometal). But you’ll probably not hear anyone else mention these two in their best (or worst) list.
Everyone’s play style is different and we all enjoy different aspects of YoYo design and play-ability. You can go into as little or as much detail that you want when talking about the YoYo. Things like shape, size, weight and finish are often good key talking points. You can talk about how each YoYo caters to your play-style and what you like or dislike about it. Give good concise opinions based off of what you have experience with and you’ll grow as you gain more experience and try more YoYos. You’ll form a solid foundation for what you like in YoYo design and I think it’ll evolve from there.
While most YoYos these days are pretty well made, that doesn’t mean they are without flaws or in need of improvement. Some are made cheaper than others, some OEM’s cut corners or outright lie about the source metals / materials, have questionable manufacturing and QC, etc. If those things matter to you and you have an opinion, you could inject that into your reviews.
IMO, the biggest thing to consider when starting to do reviews is not try not to be a shill. If your reviews are good, some brands may reach out and send you stuff. You should be clear about how you do your reviews. Try to be honest and don’t give a positive review just because they gave you something for free. While we may all have our own bias, also try to be as unbiased as possible and don’t just say it’s amazing because it was free or you’re friends with the brand owner or whatever. Honesty is key, people can tell when you’re being fake.
The last point is a real issue that I have with a couple of reviewers out there, we need less of that behavior IMO.
You could start by reviewing each in your collection, and I’m sure as you on go on you’ll end up with requests. People are alway asking “ hey can you do this one next” under reviews I see
You should see if you have a club nearby. That’s a great way to try a bunch of yoyos.
Yeah integrity is definitely key
I didn’t think of that, Imma try to give that a shot thanks
