Hello Everyone! I am looking for a new yoyo to buy nowadays. I enjoy doing tech and horizontal tricks, but also want to get into speed combos etc. The yoyos I already have are the Seiji and Miracle 2024. I am looking for an all rounder yoyo which can handle most competition tricks in today’s scene. Would you recommend the Anceps or the Upshift? (I know the Anceps Bloom was recently released so I am also interested in that
)
I enjoy doing tech and horizontal tricks, but also want to get into tech etc.

Well. For tech you want the combination of width and large diameter to not be too big. Wide is okay with small diameter. A large diameter is okay but then let the yoyo be more narrow.
So if I checked it right the Upshift wins. But its not gonna be better than your Miracle.
For horizontal there is a whole list of characteristics described in detail in a yotricks video. But honestly your Miracle is also already really good at horizontal.
Both W1ld yoyo’s seem almost identical in shape and specs. For horizontal it probably matters little between these two. The extra width is nice though.
Thanks
I’d like to learn more tech and horizontal but Hamr by atmos might fit the bill. Sounds a bit like your description for the right design elements.
I don’t agree with the idea that you need some kind of balance of width/diameter for tech. Large diameters do make chopstick elements in particular harder (especially depending on hand size), and in my experience there have been some specific individual tech elements that have been easier with narrower yoyos, but most tech elements are still made easier or remain the same with wider width (can’t speak for +52mm myself but at least up to that point).
I’d say if you’re curious between these two to three yo-yos then your preference for weight will be the deciding factor. The Upshift has a very solid feeling on the string while still being quite manoeuvrable when I tried it (which helps for speed combos as you’d expect for Dong Hun Nam). The Anceps from what I know plays quite heavy. So if you don’t mind a heavier feeling yo-yo that’s very powerful and stable then you may like the Anceps. But if you want something a bit less extreme then you may prefer the Upshift.
Here’s a brief Upshift review from Junyi Lin where he talks a bit about the two yo-yo’s differences and similarities.
Some huge diameter yoyos are perfect for chopsticks (looking at you H5 leaf). In my humble opinion it matters less about the yoyo itself and more how it fits with your hands and dexterity. I’ve played tiny yoyos that suck at tech, large wide yoyos that are bad at zoning, all sorts or weird things that just feel like they stem from the yoyo not “gelling” despite having the stats on paper that would indicate otherwise.
Ps to OP: if you like yoyos that feel like a brick, go with the Anceps. Plenty powerful and decently fast once you get it going. Upshift feels markedly lighter but has a similar presence on the string without being fatiguing to play with.
What about the Anceps bloom?
Don’t know actually, I haven’t tried it
Upshift feels to me like it shares nearly the exact same profile as the Anceps, but the difference in weight really changes how it plays. It’s lighter, noticeably more nimble, and it takes far less effort to maneuver through combos. That quickness is probably why Dong Hung Nam prefers it for speed and effortless flow. If you like a yoyo that moves with you rather than making you work for momentum, Upshift definitely leans in that direction.
That said, between the two, I personally prefer the Anceps. It has a denser, more substantial ‘brick-like’ stability, very similar to the feel you get from the UNPRLD Seiji. Many competitors I’ve talked to have said the same thing. Anceps is incredibly solid on horizontals and holds its plane extremely well. It feels grounded, reliable, and predictable in the best way possible. If you enjoy the Seiji or anything with that strong, planted presence, Anceps will fit that well.
Although I don’t own The SHY specifically, I did try a good amount of my friend’s. It’s nicely between the two. It gives you more mobility than the Anceps without giving up too much of that powerful, anchored feel. If you’re undecided or want something that blends speed with that ‘brick’ stability, SHY is a really comfortable middle ground.
I own both Upshift and Anceps, so if you ever want more in-depth photos, a direct side-by-side comparison, or details on certain features, just let me know! Happy to help!
This is very helpful, thanks! Could you send a photo of both side by side showing their widths please, would be great!

I added an UNPRLD Seiji as well, if you want to compare with!
Wow! Anceps seems quite similar in terms of shape to Seiji. Also, I believe they both play quite heavy. I might get the Upshift to try a new yoyo.
