Unboxing YoYoFactory Firedog

The Firedog is a plastic yo-yo with a looping design, a nylon transaxle and starburst reponse system. It was design as a beginner model with a very low price. Let’s start with a bunch of pictures, or just skip to the slideshow.

AFAIK, this version has 45g, 56mm diameter, 29mm width, and was available in blue, red and green. It’s really light and slim, I had trouble trying to throw it right after using Loop900 for a month or so. It doesn’t come apart and the starburst is almost nonexistent, reason why I had to loop the string three times to make it work. Not bad for a bit of fun, but the fragile plastic worries me.

The updated version is about 48 to 52g, 56mm diameter, 35.35mm width. Same design but wider, more agressive starburst, available in white, red and blue. It’s more hand friendly, but has some problems too. A bit heavier than 2009 vrs, but still very light and fragile. Doesn’t come apart but with some use the two halves rotate independently now. The spin time on this one is worst than the 2009 vrs, it’s even hard to do a Around The World unless you throw it hard and straight.

If you are looking for something to start looping, I don’t think this is the ideal. It’s good for some classic simple moves, or to carry around to give to a friend that asks you to try your yo-yo and you already know he is going to break it or say that “It doesn’t work!”. Still, it’s good to have some fun, or if you want to start work your other hand. Otherwise, get a Loop900, it’s a whole new world, and with the adjustable system you can progress faster.

Sorry for the huge amount of pics, but it’s my way to show you everything about it and the differences between those two. 8)
