I want a yoyo that is good for both 5a and 1a. Preferably smaller than usual for fun play but not too small it feels like just a collector’s item. MGB and Point Breaker are my 2 main candidates right now. If anyone has any recommendations, that would be amazing. (Also, I am looking for a good CW as well.)
I have tried the Counter Jet and Point Breaker but I liked Counter Jet more due to smaller size, more fun.![]()
Miidy is a solid contender for this if you don’t mind mono metals. Great for 1a and 5a. Also you can find them on the BST for real cheap.
Hey there! I’d recommend the Acanthus or the Acanthus S! It’s Makeshift 5a sig and I think it maybe be perfect for what your looking for spec wise as well, I personally haven’t tried either but I recently have been getting into 5a myself and may have to find one in the future.
On that note I also ordered a new counterweight to get better into 5a, “Porykon Saturn” I’ll let you know how it is when it arrives !
For the counterweights, I just recently picked up a couple from fairycrystal lab and they are fantastic. They got multiple different shapes aswell, if you want the classic cube shape, or a more modern porykon style. They are kinda expensive though, especially if your shipping to the USA.
The other thing is they’re out of stock lol who knows when they’ll do a restock🤔
Isn’t that the mono version of MGB?
I will maybe get PON weight or Yokozuna depending on where I get the yoyo from.
I haven’t tried many of the smaller TP bitmetals but I have a Ziz and I really like it. I wanted a smaller, more comfortable Hinemosu, but turns out it’s kind of its own thing. It’s more nimble than the Hinemosu despite being smaller and about the same weight. While the Hinemosu moves slow, controlled, and feels heavier than its 66.7g, I’d say the Ziz feels more “normal” like what you’d expect from a smaller 66.5g bimetal. Feels a bit dense (in a good way) and performs like a beast.
I think it especially shines with a slightly shorter string. Shorter string helps me improve flow, but I lose a bit of control. The heft and performance of the Ziz help offset that loss of control, and the smaller form factor makes tech easier when there’s less string to work with. You may also want to change the pads if you like a snappy bind.
Interesting. Would you say either Ziz or Hinemosu are good for 5a as well as 1a?
I don’t play 5A so I really have no idea. The Hinemosu is a Takeshi signature but I’m not sure if he uses it for 5A (maybe check out Acanthus S?).
Tbh, 5a is not my main style, just want a yoyo that is smaller and good for 1a along with being suitable for 5a.
Almost any yoyo will be a candidate for 5A. Certain attributes, like the profile, can make or break a yoyo as far as it being enjoyable for 5A. I also am not a good 5A player, I hardly touch it. But when I have I enjoyed messing around with a yoyo that had low walls, or even a counter curve profile. These attributes are also desirable for a good horizontal, but are not a requirement for the same reasons I said about 5A, it’s doable on almost any decent yoyo.
I feel like the MGB is a good one.
Not a TP but C3 Ambition looks nice
Any opinions on that?
Ambition is an amazing 5a throw its good for 1a too but its one of my 3 go tos for 5a
Ambition or MGB overall for fun and quality play?
I pickup my ambition more than I pick up my mgb by a good margin. It hits my wants more and its very comfortable for 5a play.
I think I want a more unique yoyo for now. Is the MGB better suited for that? Also a bit undersized would be great as I loved the Counter Jet.
The mgb is pretty good for that
