The Future Of 5A Yoyo

Hey everyone, this is Quốc Anh — 3-time Vietnam National Yoyo Champion and 2026 Worlds 5A finalist, also founder of Quocrea.

Today I’d like to show you guys how 5A CW technology will look in the next couple of years, or even decades. Let’s get into it.

So — have you ever wondered what if a counterweight could split like a yoyo body does?

Here’s the answer: the world’s first hybrid-construction 5A counterweight. Two swappable halves on a precision-threaded interface. Dozens of prototypes. One breakthrough.

This is the Stand Apart series by Quocrea.

About the Stand Apart Series :

Stand Apart is Quocrea’s flagship series of 5A counterweights, built around one core idea:

“Gear should adapt to the player, not the other way around.”

Every product in the series runs on the QA Lock System (Quoc Axis Lock System), a high-precision threaded interface that lets a single body accept swappable halves in different materials and colors — turning one CW into a platform for multiple setups instead of a single fixed configuration.

And the first release in this series: Square Apart.

About Square Apart — the series opener

Square Apart is the world’s first 5A counterweight built on a hybrid construction — running on the QA System (Quoc Axis System), a high-precision threaded interface that lets you swap between two different materials or colors on the same body, without getting a whole new CW to change how it plays or how it looks.

Unscrew the joint, swap in a different half, and the response shifts with it — heavier or lighter, faster or slower in the tug — all within the same shape and footprint. Combine different colors across the two halves for a two-tone build unique to your setup.

One CW, reconfigured to match how you play.

Manufacturing process :

As you may or may not already know, most brands only need one step of CNC to shape a CW, with one optional extra step to shape it into a square. My product is a completely different story. To make this CW, you need a top part and a bottom part combined into one full body — each part requires a different CNC code, plus 2 extra steps to shape it into a square. This takes much longer to produce and costs about 3 times as much as a standard one-step CNC process.

But that’s not the hardest part. The hardest part was making the screw structure inside work perfectly in a square shape without any misalignment. It took me and the engineer a lot of time to figure out how to solve that — and especially how to make it possible to swap the top or bottom parts with different materials or new colors that will be released in the future.

Why a counterweight to kick things off?

In 5A, the counterweight isn’t just an accessory — it shapes balance, feel, and how a player performs. Square Apart was chosen to launch the Stand Apart Series because it best embodies the series’ core idea: one platform, reconfigured to match how each player wants to play and look.

This is just the first step for the Stand Apart Series — more products carrying this same spirit are coming. Would love to hear thoughts and questions from the community, especially from 5A players and anyone with CW experience, so we can keep refining the product.

I really like the bead setup. I already 3d print round beads with grooves like that for my counterweights since its easier than threading through a bead, and having that shape so it clicks into the bearing is super smart!

I picked up the pom/pc pack, excited to try it! Always a fan of the cube shape cw

Whats the weight on these? I can’t seem to find it on the website
