TAW 2026 Week 3 -Zach Gormley Star Trick
Too cold to film outside :snowflake::snowflake::snowflake:

Alright, getting back to a Wednesday routine for these, I found this cabin tutorial and really liked it because;

  1. it’s a repeater

  2. its relatively simple ( Houdini mount, a double on trapeze, unwind back to Houdini, transition to kamikaze mount, and a hop and thumb pluck right back to houdini.)

Looks complicated, but I think it’s easy once it’s slowed down and broken down.

Tips:

  1. Put the video at .5 or .75 speed at the 16 second mark, really slows it down and helps to isolate each element

  2. for me, when doing the hop that brings you back to Houdini, it made it easier to catch and start another roll the higher you hop your hands. You can see in the video Earnest hops it pretty high as well, (he touches hands like in an eli hop and uses his thumb to grab the string for the dismount).

Here’s a prerequisites:

Oooh, this one looks really fun. I’m looking forward to giving it a try tomorrow. Thanks for your work picking and posting these!

One of my favorite tricks is kamikaze, so this came really quickly. I threw in 1/2 a cup of rancid milk at the end.
Yoyo: Featherspin Corvus.

Catching up. Work is killing my throw time. Learned this trick a couple years back on TaW but didn’t come close so I’m happy to have figured out out. My friend showed me zerber a while back and i enjoy throwing it into combos when possible.
Working on white Buddha again, always have trouble with that last step but if i land it I’ll try to film it.

First time recording in the new place I don’t really know where to put the camera. Still needs some cleaning up but I wanted to get something in here before tmrw. Though now I see it’s posted already so it doesn’t matter lol

idk if this is a better spot prolly not.

It’s cold outside. It’s cold inside too! Very productive yoyo weekend! Thank you.

Best version of white budda I’ve thrown and actually got it on camera so BAM! That last element is very tricky.

Another banger, still working on flow/smoothing tricks out- but this quickly became one of my favorites. There’s just something relaxing about running a flashy looking repeater trick multiple times in a row.

This wasn’t too bad to figure out, my main tips would be to make sure your string is long enough and make sure to keep the strings roughly lined up- I often miss the “catch” to Kamikaze if that loop is leaning too far forward or backwards so that either the top or bottom ends up not getting caught in the yoyo.

As was mentioned before, when going back to Houdini you want the yoyo to go as high as possible (without bouncing off the strings). Lifting your hands slightly with that can help give a bit of extra time for that transition.

Happy February! We thought we would try having a “theme” for the month, where we focus on one element/style for all 4 or 5 tricks. This month we’ve got a couple of tricks based on boingy-boing! To get started with these you should be able to get into a split bottom mount.

For week 1, we gotta do the original boingy-boing(y). There are a lot of tutorials out there, here’s a good one that covers some common mistakes/tips:

If you can already do the standard boings, feel free to start working on/post the over-under variation:

Have fun!
