Trick-a-Week 2025- #48 Plan D

after the reverse houdini whip or before?

it might be the first part (chopsticks kind of element) that’s making the extra loop. he has the C opening toward him, not away. that threw me off at first

i think ur super close but it’s hard to tell from the pic alone. dunno if @digitalcharlie or @GTDropKnot have insight, but a vid would def help if you can just to see your actual movements

Aight so I am not 100% sure but I thiiiink something is going wrong when you switch the string from being on the three nth fingers to the nth thumb.

Here’s the important steps in a video. I skipped the intro flowy flourishy stuff like the vid starts from the don with all of nth in it. Also at the beginning I was just showing how the dismount from don curls the nth index finger but fr is the curl and then also into the top string.

@Splizacular @mikeydoe @GTDropKnot Genuinely, thank you so mud for all the help with this. Every so often a trick comes around that’s seemingly very simple but I got some reason cannot for the life of me figure out what I’m doing wrong. I’m about to try all these tips and maybe I can figure out how to put my phone on a shelf to get a top view video of what I’m doing.

The video you just posted @GTDropKnot is super helpful and much appreciated!

if you can’t, even a normal front view could be helpful

I DID IT! I’ve now landed it three times! WOW that was seriously a battle for such a simple trick.

I’m still not totally sure how I was causing the issue I was having, but I know now during what step it was occurring. Somehow during the step where the string rejects off yoyo, I was creating an extra wrap or knot. I’m still doing it sometimes, but it happens so fast I can’t pinpoint an exact cause.

I can do the reverse houdini whip from a trapeze, but I can’t seem to land it in this format… very frustrating…

Yo here is a progression to try that could help you get there.

Step one. Trapeze and pinch in whichever way is most comfortable for you. Put th index under the string. Curl middle back or grip with pinkie ring and middle to open up space for the whip to catch the back half of the yoyo. Draw a circle with th to whip the string. You want to whip the string under the yoyo and into the gap.

Step two. Basically the same as step 1 but instead of pinching, give the yoyo a bit of upward momentum to cancel out gravity so you can whip. Not even a hop really…just like lift and whip.

You can learn the last part of the trick from either of these if you wanna try that also.

Step 3 is add the chopsticks element. ( @Ironical_Monocle1 yo this will apply to what you are stuck with) This part does have funky timing that took me a sec to remember… i missed it like 20 times in a row then figured out the feel of it again and now it feels hard to miss like a trick that is weird af but then locks into place vs the stuff that stays hard forever lol. Non sequitur there my b but basically the whip should be a little slower and match the timing of the pinwheeling action like it feels natural to whip earlier than you need too and that was what was messing me up at first. The slack will have momentum already from the pinwheeling move so you really shouldn’t need to add much ooomph. If I could give one thing to focus on or just try a few times, it would be to intentionally hold off the underwhip until the last moment like add a bit of a pause before whipping. Also try adding a bit more vertical motion when pinwheeling around like check out how high i send the yoyo in the clip for the last one.

Feels lazy almost when you do it and it works imo
