Trick-a-Week 2025- #46 Matthew Poon's Slack

Yo it is Thursday and no one has learned the trick so far. I am nervous people are struggling so I wanted to give a couple tips about the part I think is most likely to trip people up—the hop from cross arm trapeze to cross arm brother. This part is awkward but gets much easier with some technical considerations. There should be a maintained tension on the string throughout that hop and undercut (just like regular trapeze hop and undercut to brother). With the crossarm version, this is achieved by making sure nth stays crossed over far and stays pushing into the string and that when th index does cut into the string, it is pushing against it enough to pull the yoyo down. Undercutting close to the yoyo also helps bc there is just less room for errors that way and plane control can be a little looser. The main thing though is that the yoyo should be pulled the yoyo onto the string (like all hop elements…think basic eli hop technique) vs trying to “catch” or “land” the yoyo. If there is tension and the yoyo is being pulled onto the string, the yoyo is easier to control and that is good. Also exceptionally long string will make these elements harder…hope this helps and ppl enjoy the trick…

The family and I are in epic vacation mode, so I haven’t really had time to do much yoyoing, but I will definitely plug away at it… no way I’m leaving y’all hangin’

Week 46 — Matthew Poon’s Slack Trick

I really enjoy that slack whip motion and was looking for something in between Maider’s double whip from week 14 and the meta slack trick a lot of folks learn from this yoyojoe video. This tutorial from @Rhythm162 feels right in the middle to me and is pretty satisfying when you do it cleanly.
