Trick-a-Week 2025- #20 Simian Slam

There’s definitely no harm in trying a shorter string like it will prolly feel weird for a sec but i feel like proportions are really important in 5a more than any other style. Took me a decent amount of experimentation to figure out what i like so the cw is swing off and right where I want it to. You dont even have to cut the string also you can just like leave it dangling after the cw and decide later

A simple way to do this is to take your 1a length and go down a little bit from there until you like it! Me for example i go four above where my belly button is, but for 5a a go a little under my waist

I tried a bit with one more loop tied off and it’s waay easier! I feel like I just lost some training weights

I’m trying to get some of these very cool 5A elements which are way more challenging then i thought.
Question day#5 the trapeze toss CW… how do you toss the CW into the triangle with out it snagging up. I’ve tried dozens of times, and every time either the CW hits the yoyo, falls short and into the side closer to me or the yoyo drops a bit and i totally miss.
Do i need to pinch the trapeze? Is there a way to hold the CW on the toss?
Apreciate any tips.

Yeah pinch with nth between index and middle and then if you have a bit of momentum swinging towards th, you can kinda just like aim a bit down and let the cw fall through the opening almost and that makes it a lot easier plus adds a bit of flow so win win !

I still think Quoc Anh has to be among the best 5A players ever.

I definitely think that could help you, @bigstupidbees. I like mine a little longer than most 5A players to slow the counterweight a bit, but still shorter than my 1A set ups. Would recommend experimenting, if you’d like.

Thank you! Ugly as $#!+ but i got it. I will try to combine #2 and #5 if possible. Most deff will not be smooth but if i do that will be a victory in my book!

Got Day #2 in a pretty good place (which I define as landing at least 50% of the time). #5 I am ending up in knots, but I think I need to just be more smooth with the swing around and also watch the string lengths of the loops and counterweight.

Here is Part 2 of my “Fumbling thru 5A” series, I’m going to put Havoc on the back burner for later (like, years later), it looks like a great trick, but it has been causing rapid increases to my Rage-O-Meter, and that is just not fun for anyone :joy:

Any part in particular you need help with? It’s pretty challenging so it’s understandable.

Getting better at swinging everything around and catching the counterweight, but then it’s “everything is backwards, time to panic!”

The chopstick element is definitely giving me trouble, but it’s the swinging the yoyo through the underside of the triangle (like the last hop in Superman) that is giving me the most trouble… it’s strictly a skill issue on my part (and as I’ve said before, Spencer Berry is an evil genius )

For the chopsticks part I focus on getting the yoyo over my index. Make sure your thumb is up and the chopsticks formation is more vertical than normal. It really just takes practice.

Yeah the first swing is probably the hardest part. I feel like it helps to transfer the loop to my thumb before mounting the brother mount. Then I keeping your hands still helps the most as you swing through. You could also look at the cabin tutorial because I don’t think Chuck swings through the gap but from behind and it still works.

Ok gang, lemme start off by apologizing. I have had an unbelievably busy week where I’ve been out of town as much as in town and by the time i make it home/wrap up I’ve just been running on fumes and i just haven’t had it in me to learn something new. i started on havoc but so far it’s making me want to break things around me. anyway i apologize for being less engaged and not posting this week but i will catch up over the next few days.

also Charlie is out of the country and in a different time zone entirely so i will be posting both sets this week

all that is to say please excuse us while we life a little bit

Big thanks to both creators for hooking the community up with fun creative things to learn!

My focus while making this trick was to isolate some rebounds that didn’t have e-fan as a prerequisite, and to not use rebounds that had strict timing windows to do them before the yoyo/cw desync and break the formation.

I tried to also split the parts into segments that could be easily taken as their own individual element to work into your own combos, to help show off some potential ways you can transition in or out of these elements.

I think this is a good place to start if you want to learn your first rebound combo. If you’re struggling with any aspect of it, feel free to post a clip and I’ll help you troubleshoot. Any tutorial feedback is also appreciated since I haven’t made a tutorial in a few years.
