I like how you chose some good ole fashion concrete to learn 5a over lmao (totally messing with ya)
I’ve yet to find any “yoyo” jibbitz
Drops can unscrew yoyos a bit sometimes. Just something to be aware of, it can happen when you throw yoyos into the floor while playing 1A as well. I stand by my durability comment fully though. Purple yoyo (Japan Technology Mirage) is 6061 with an 8mm axle (so pretty much a recipe for what I see people complaining about in regard to stripping), and it’s still dead smooth.
Yoyos are designed to be abused. 6061 which is the “cheap” alloy is already leagues better than the even cheaper 3003 a lot of metal products we use in our daily lives are made out of. Yoyos are durable, and even if they do pick up some vibe, vibe doesn’t actually matter at all lol.
Yeah I agree I was just startled hah
If it helps my Barracuda was the one that gave me a giant knot on my head lol, I respect that yoyo more than any of my others now, it actually hit me back.
Me neither! But my wife found some little backs for enamel pins that pop in to jibbit holes! I need to get some and put my yoyo pins in them.
Aye that’s smart, I can’t believe there isn’t at least one yoyo jibbitz though. There’s literally about everything else you could think of. A company or idk, a yo-yo store (hint-hint @AndreBoulay) could perhaps find a way to do this
None of these tricks are going to be picked for any of the weeks, but for newer players looking for some essential 5A skills to practice, these tutorials are evergreen. They might seem frustrating, but 5A really is a “learn to walk before you run” style. Having a solid grasp on these will make learning everything after this easier.
Some people like Luna swear though that Red pinwheels/one handed pinwheels are the first trick your should learn. Definitely go outside before trying this, but this really does teach an essential skill. If you’re struggling to get your beestings clean, this is what you should be learning first.
I have a few general questions about 5a should I ask them here or revive a dead discussion thread or make a new one?
You can just ask here or you can make a thread, up to you. I’m gonna keep posting beginner 5A tutorials each week though, and hopefully help anybody struggling with learning any of the tutorials I’ve shared.
revive something with a similar question
Aight cool I can only really play 5a outside and it’s been raining for like 3 days by me so I haven’t been able to chuck recently. Before I went in last, I was struggling w the 720 like 360 I felt good with but the second one the yo would just be hanging and only the cw would go around. I tried weighing the string proportions more to the th and messing w the initial speed but is there something I should focus on to get that second swing?
A video would be good to help here. If you only do a 360 you normally have a steeper trapes to start with.
If you want todo more spins you need to bring the formation closer together. Also your hand does a very tiny motion let the weight of the Yoyo do the work.
So this is actually kind of why Luna argues for one handed pinwheels to be the very first trick you learn. When you’re doing the 720 you should actually be able to do an unlimited number of extra spins instead of just the one extra rotation.
It’s more about timing than anything else because you always want the string formation on your index finger to be touching against the additional string as you do rotations.
I will try the one handed and hopefully figure it out and come back w a vid of me failing if I can’t figure it out. Thanks y’all! no 5a again for me today but I will try to get atleast the 720 here by Thursday and probably the other one but very slow and methodically because I’m so far away from being able to catch the cw before it goes around an extra time.
I accidentally do like 5 or 6 pinwheels every time I want a 720. Only recently been confident enough to stop the spin but even then usually land in a double on trap.
Sorry that I can’t give you more tips. This is just one of those things you have to feel out. That’s why I think 720+ is the first trick you should learn, it’s teaching the same concept as one handed pinwheels but with less of a chance of throwing the yoyo across the room.
As one bit of advice, you don’t have to be a speed demon for this. It’s more about feel and timing than going fast or slow. For the 720 make sure you just keep that feel of the extra string on your finger. If you look at my 720 you can see that it almost looks like I land in a double on trapeze before I let go of the cw to start the 720. And when you’re comfortable with the feel of a 720, you can just keep going and do as many revolutions as you want.
@GTDropKnot i recorded a slomo for you. Not sure if this helps but you can follow the motion very precisely. But as @mable said it is pure feeling and takes a moment to build up in your muscle memory.
Thanks you all this is super helpful and I’m excited to play more later!
