They were like 2 giant marbles on thick string and you held the middle of the string and then you’d bounce the string and they’d clack, right? I had those for awhile. They were cool!
Yep, that’s exactly it. Apparently, a few chipped or shattered and they were taken off the market.
when I was 7 I wanted a clyw peak, but my parents said yoyos shouldnt be that expensive… little do they know now
Oh, wow! It had Tetris! That was one of my favorite games in my highschool years. Defender was second.
I somehow have never heard of this. Now I want one.
Always wanted a domino rally set. Specifically the one with the loop. I probably didn’t have the patients to actually set it up and play with it so in hindsight probably a good move on the folks to not get it for me.
My brother had that and spent so much time dominating the dining table with it. It was pretty cool!
More stuff I really, really, really wanted… My grandmother was very good with a sewing machine and sewing in general. She used tor make clothing for my G.I. Joes. She made a very cool space capsule for my Joes out of a Clorox bleach bottle. I wish she was still alive so I could tell her how much I cherish these memories.
Funny how the Abominable Snowman is half the size of Joe!
Masters of the Universe Castle Grayskull playset also the Thundercats Thundertank.
Not sure if this is the exact track, but any track with a loop and up the wall section is what I wanted.
OMG…these things…I remember seeing commercials for both this, that crazy high-speed train set (that had a loop), and Dino-Riders. I was really into dinosaurs as a kid and Dino-Riders were high on my wants list…even more-so when I saw these things in the store. Never did have the toys but I did have a VHS tape of the said toy line and it had the commercials for both these slot cars, the train, and the Dino-Riders.
I can still smell this picture
Oh man… This is the shiz right here!
SIKU Space Shuttle Transport
It wasn‘t even that expensive. I think it fell off the table every year because of more important stuff (LEGO, He-Man, TMNT).
Then we have this badass unit:
However, the most frustrating thing was an action figure: Super Shredder from the hilarious live-action TMNT movie Secret Of The Ooze
This was my absolute grail. Turned out it simply wasn‘t available in Europe back then. Back then with no internet, you were out of luck and didn‘t even know it. My Dad used to travel quite extensively in Europe back then and went to every toy store he could, no luck. Really sad, I think he would have loved bringing it home one day.
Happy ending: When the Interwebs became available, I filled this void and bought one off the bay to close this chapter that‘s been open for far too long. Still have it.
Haha! I love it!
Back in 1963 I wanted a Schwinn Stingray bicycle.
There was just nothing like them, waaay back then.
Didn’t have enough money. The local Newspaper was giving them to Paperboys that could get 50 starts and keep most of them for 3 months.
But my Dad would not let me get a job to earn the bike. He would not let me mow lawns or wash cars or anything that would generate money. Just a hard spot in his head, I guess.
My brother and I would bring home bikes that people would set on the curb. We would get enough bikes to salvage parts and make functional bikes, like Dr. Frankenstein.
People Loved our Frankenbikes… But I still always wanted a Stimgray.
I guess my Dad actually unintentionally did me a favor. Because by the time I was 18, I had already built a Custom Harley Motorcycle. I accidentally found out I was pretty mechanically inclined.
That was over 50 years ago. I’m working on another Harley project ‘now’.
But, all these decades later, when I think of the first time I laid eyes on an entire line of Stingray bikes down at Kings Bicycles on Pacific, I still smile.
But, I wouldn’t change a thing if I could go back in time.
This is my exact experience.
I had a bike much like that. It was made of all kinds of other bicycle parts. It was a pretty good bike actually.
I wanted one of those bikes with the really long padded seat and the really high handlebars. What a sweet ride for a kid.
Maybe not getting a Stingray bike resulting in you making your own frankenbikes is what set you on your life course or at least started your course earlier than if you spent that time riding around on a new Stingray.
The “big kids” in my neighborhood used to take the front wheel forks from other bikes and add them to their bike forks to make them look like choppers.
