Tom Kuhn throws

Back when I first started yo-yoing it was with an old Duncan imperial. Great fixed axle but when I was gifted a Tom Kuhn made wood Yoyo man 2a set (with the smothers brothers VHS) the imperial went into a drawer. The Kuhn’s were so much more fun. I can remember saving up for months to get my first metal Yoyo when the original silver bullet came out.

Since I’ve gotten back into yo-yos lately using modern throws I’m starting to get nostalgic wishing I still had that old silver bullet that disappeared years ago. I found they are still making his designs but it looks like there have been some changes/updates.

Anyone have any thoughts on the newer Tom Kuhn throws? I’m eyeing the SB2, fat cat and pocket rocket at the moment.

As far as the fixed axle stuff they are closer to the yoyo man yoyo you put in the drawer. It was made by hummingbird which became BC/what’s next. BC took over production and marketing of tk products somewhere around ‘96 and they still do to this day. Still a great shape and feel, and they’ve always made great laminated yo-yos but I’m not sure why there aren’t any butterfly shaped wooden yo-yos. Unfortunately, no new 3in1s at the moment.

@simyo let us cook, homie.

@Caike the nice thing about TK (for people who dig it) is it mainly stays the same. i really do like both the SBX and Fat(ter) Cat with the unresponsive spacers, but the og SB2/Fat Cat are great throwbacks too. i DO wish more modern No Jives could get made, but there are some prohibitive issues with them as far as Brad’s concerned. there IS some cool new stuff happening though - promise.

The Duncan went int the drawer. My smother brothers set are actually 70’s vintage Tom kuhns but they are just scrap wood now. Being stored in my parents garage loft for about 40 years, unprotected they rotted., so I couldn’t tell you if they were no jives or what.

You got me intrigued Ed. I’ll have to grab a fat cat to play with both modes soon.

Pop over to eBay. I see a few OG Silver Bullets under $100.

Welcome back!

I love TK stuff and the fact I don’t have a sb is a shame I need to rectify. (I have a knock off lol)

You make it look easy Ed. Am I correct in thinking your throwing the unresponsive fat cat listed on the site?

That’s what he’s using

How’s the Sleep Machine? Just ordered one, will be my first bearing woodie and am looking forward to some 0a action with it.

Silver Bullet was made out of titanium almost five years ago, by Round Spinning Objects. All of these yoyos are long sold out on RSO site, but they still have a history page about creating it.

So the TK Silver Bullet (the original which the RSO version paid homage to) was from the 80s (and it’s successor the SB-2 from the 90s). That’s def the yo-yo they’re talking about, although the RSO one was wonderful.

@AngryGumball it’s pretty good. Has the same (very cool) gap adjustment mechanism as the SB-2. Bear in mind if you crank it too wide and break in the bearing you will need some kind of response sticker adjustment. With a tighter gap, they work great as a responsive bearing 0a yo-yo.
