Thread for strings recommendations

So I’ve just gotten into string making. And. I. LOVE IT! It’s been a blast overtightening strings and watching my setup blow up, attempting to make the loosest string possible just to see it unwind itself, trying loose threads I have around the house just to see what would happen, and being disappointed in most of them.

Over the week, I’ve got my rig setup and I’ve been able to make adjustments to avoid the above issues, and now I’m actually making strings I can play on! I’ve followed the information and guides of the community here and picked up some Tex 35 Wooly Poly Serger Thread from my local spin store, and it’s done me well! I’ve made a few strings off it and I enjoy the feel of them so far!

However, I find that I want to try more! So I wanted to ask, does anyone have recommendations for brands, thread types or product lines to try to make strings from? or good key words to use on my hunt? Also, what would you recommend avoiding? I no there’s no one answer to a good string, but knowing where not to tread to get my thread would also be nice!

Attached photos of the thread I used for my first success and a closeup of said string below. Apologies for photo quality

I just received some YLI and found it has unreal good neon color, but was way too light for my liking when I made a string from it. (I have always wanter or been in search of the neon bright strings. ) However I blended it with some other brads I had and it became a really good string.

I get Maxilock, Thread art, Guttermans and then mix and match to suit. Every brand is different and even same brands different colors change the feel. Wawak sewing has some, Amazon as well.

It’s an adventure or journey if you really get into it. Super fun experimenting. As you progress in your string blends, you probably progress in your throwing ability and then expect that to change your string preferences as well.

Good luck

I love that neon green BTW. The neon colors help me see it and the whips and slacks, the nylon is so good for, really pop with the brighter neon strings. Makes the trick really look slick IMO.

The Neon Green was half the reason I picked this string up! The entire line from Serger Wooly Poly Thread line comes in bright, bouncy, and felt great to work with! Wayyyy better than the lighter generic Poly and Cotton I had lying about.

I bought a large thing of starter poly strings in a dark purple and started on 5a. It was so much harder to see what I was doing when I practiced. Having a brighter string in dark Alaska solved that for me for certain! I hope it looks better, we plan to record some promo vids for the club up here, so this is now an unintended bonus!
