Same here, I have a Duncan unresponsive gap in my collection as well

Gather round kids while I tell you a story, The year is 2014…maybe…I did a lot of drugs at the time. But it was around there…and the barracuda dropped. It was $120 which was more than I had ever paid for a Duncan that wasn’t Magnesium. (I lie actually because the Deluxxxxxxe series had came out but honestly those yoyos were never that great) When I touched the Cuda it was love at first feel. The first run of Cudas were just absolutely magical. These Yo-yos were later revealed to be machined by One Drop with Duncans design. If you can find one of those OG Cudas, I would highly recommend getting one. Now: Since then, Duncan like every other company (except David) has moved production across the rivers, and the finish on the new cudas is not something that I personally desire. Once again everything i’m saying is debatable because its simply my opinion. But if you can find a USA Cuda, which is going to be more expensive than your $15 cuda on the BST. I cannot recommend it enough.

I got one off the ā€˜zon a few years ago and I think it’s pretty solid for $30. Definitely one of the newer production models but I see no quality issues or anything like that. Smooth finish, nice response, feels nice and balanced on the string, not too heavy not too light with decent spin time for an older design. If you’re at all into 5A it’s a no brainer to have in your collection.

I’ve had my eyes on one for awhile and just picked one up from that bangalorian feller. I’ve been throwing since beginning of the year and I’ve found the most satisfaction with Duncan: in particular, the hornet and butterfly. This one is intimidating but I’m super happy with it. Feels strong and exactly the size I need to really start moving past my skin the gerbil/matrix practice. I picked it up with a bimetal bumblebee and am so excited to really start throwing them. I’m still looking to pick up an evolve but with this barracuda will keep me at bay for a good long while. Albeit I’ve only had mine for a week or so but I would recommend the Duncan Barracuda as a 37 year old suburban Chicago boy with less than years worth of throwing.

I’ve got one. I have kept one constantly at the ready for over 3 years now. It was the first unresponsive I bought and while I’ve bought others that I prefer, (can’t give higher praise to the Haymaker AL) I keep going back to it. It’s a solid choice and capable of anything you need.

You’re skinning the gerbil with a butterfly in less than a year? Dang dude! I can barely throw a Matrix given a bearing, and been throwing embarrassingly longer…

i should clarify, the butterfly has given me the most satisfaction, not necesarily the best ability. butterflies are my funnest throws, for me at least. for tricks- i attribute my cyber crash 2, shutter, or shortcut!

The Barracuda was one of my first metal yoyos, and what I learned a lot of the basics on. It was designed for performance (it was used to win several contests, iirc), and can handle just about anything.

I ended up gifting mine to a friend who expressed an interest in getting in to throwing and missed it so much I tracked down a replacement with cooler engravings.
It’s a fantastic yoyo and will always have a place in my collection.

Still, I haven’t skinned any gerbils yet. Sounds like pretty good progress to me! And hard to beat a Duncan Butterfly fresh out of the package. Hell. Well worn, tacky feeling ones before they come apart are fun too.
