Available both to read online and as a print-and-fold zine to drop wherever you like!

Vol.1 - The Basics

Vol.1 of the Yoyo Archive Zine covers some of the basics of yo. Vol.2 will continue this when it comes out.

The combo of Vol.1 and Vol.2 will be to introduce new players to the yo-yo community.

I wonder if there’s a source to print on demand for these.

Amazon does this. My wife published a coloring book for those suffering cognitive decline, they are print to order, though we have a small batch here on hand to give out as well.

Hers is laid out like a book though, idk about this layout

Interesting. Does amazon require the print to be submitted as an indesign file or would a simple PDF suffice I wonder.

Some of the information about the divisions is not accurate. 1a-5a are contest divisions and have strict definitions bc they are contest divisions.

2A specifically uses two yoyos. If you’re using one yoyo, that isn’t 2A.
3A players use unresponsive yoyos and you wrote they use responsive yoyos. Using two responsive yoyos would technically still be 3A but no one is doing that on stage.
Both 4A and 5A can use 1 or more yoyos and that isn’t mentioned

Idk if we’re talking styles, maybe say like looping, offstring, freehand, string tricks, two yoyo string tricks or something bc the _A designations do have strict definitions bc they only exist in the context of contests.

You can see how the iyyf defines them here

Probably easiest to just say 1a-5a are contest divisions and use their definitions and then make a point to mention the alt styles like 0a, hydra, floop etc.

Good idea. I’ll update this soon!

She said she used a PDF

Files are updated! I fixed 2A and 3A, and put a note on how these are contest divisions, and are a good way to explain the most popular styles of play.

I would just run’em off at kinkos/staples/officemax and fold’em yourself.

That is cooler, I concur. I want to maybe print off a bunch and leave them around at local coffee shops and stuff.

I should probably know by now. Is floop like full loop string 4A?

Yep exactly! Just a fun to say abbreviation for full loop

Ohh more of these I’ll gladly print a bunch and put them at YoYo’s club.

Heck I’ve been begging various folks for a printable link me this

Whatever you need let us know I want more

this yoyo wiki article is a decent source of information to look at

some of the styles in it are probably too obscure to really be worth mentioning in your case but there’s some good stuff in there

I’ll be sending Vol.2 out to some people to check out tomorrow! Once it’s good, it’ll go up on the Archive. It’s now looking like “The Basics” will be 3 volumes.
