The 0A Thread (Fixed Axle & Modern Responsive)

it will do more than suffice! watch this man work and then see if you still have any doubts about the butterfly’s capability

Seriously—You could change nothing about the butterfly, but make it $50, and it would still be an excellent 0A yo-yo.

Okay okay - I’ll have to break out my Butterfly then for FAF and show it some love. If I’m being 100% honest - the Butterfly is what kept me yo-yoing from a kid through my 40s - never advancing but having fun with the basics. Had I learned stalls way back when (or even NOW) that might have changed things. When I decided to get “serious” I jumped fairly quickly from responsive play to unresponsive play. I feel like my Butterfly and even my Butterfly XT just don’t hold the mustard against my other responsive throws spin times and since I don’t know stalls - find them very limited.

I’ve got to get this stall thing mastered before FAF and then maybe I’ll reignite my Butterfly love.

What strings are folks using on their butterflies? I don’t have any cotton options right now. I do have some cheap “yotricks” 100% poly though. Or MagicYoyo (though it seems thicker) then most of what I have is “fat” which seems like a big no go on starburst response.

I prefer poly on Butterflies. I play whatever my current bulk is and am not particularly fussy about it. Currently that’s OTS Normal, but it has been Kitty Fat, and Alphaline.

:joy: This is honestly so true. Especially regarding the newest version. It has no business being so good for so cheap.

The Zipline Alphaline is a great string for the Butterfly. It has a great twist and thickness for consistent response.

My butterfly is older - so maybe that’s part of it - but I’ll throw an alphaline on it (I have some) and see how it goes.

gonna third the alphaline recs. i recently tried it based on a suggestion from @Yodaddyo and it feels and responds like a champ

Ya, I didn’t used to like the Butterfly but the newest version has the secret sauce. I can’t even put my finger on exactly why, but I’ve been told they updated the mould and use a higher quality plastic. It is more solid, more consistent and overall just feels nicer in play and in the hand. All of the ones I have play really smooth and respond well with a good string match up.

Here is a comparison I wrote up on identifying the newest version of Butterflies.

Mine is most definitely the old mould.

Show us on the scale how old your butterfly is.

Not pictured? But guessing newer than green and older than purple.

Haha, that was just the general butterfly logo designs as they evolved, but definitely an old mold of one of the latest logo iterations.

Xanadu has a good thread on here about the mold changes, looks like yours is one of the older ones. Almost textbook!

I made some D size blanks in Titanium, but haven’t posted them yet.
@AudreySickburn is the only one that has seen them yet.

I can attest to their quality. I’ve got one in a respawn lite in my pocket right now. Super fun.

Haven’t managed to get to it yet due to some family stuff, but I will update here once I do! I got a second Butterfly and that one works perfectly so I’m happy I have at least one working one for now

They aren’t pretty or consistent - but I’m finally landing a stall on my Confusion. For some reason that yoyo is easier than the Weekender for me to do it right now. Gotta keep practicing but man - finally!

Thank you @edhaponik from a #4 Horse!
