Sunglasses on Stage

There times when I wonder this too. Maybe it’s because Hiroyuki Suzuki does it. 8) That is almost a signature thing for him. They always have a pink spot around his nose.

Because unless you have a medical reason, wearing them indoors is rude and childish and they want to show us how “bad” they are?

I’m not sure how Tony actually ran the lights. I think last year it was from a ceiling hung truss. I’m used to big stages and 30’+ ceilings(you know, actual event halls). I like to get that front truss no more than 10 feet in front of the stage so I can aim down at a non-blinding angle. However, these days, I don’t have square trussing, motors or a rigger on crew, so I’m limited to tree stands and I don’t have powerful wash lights, but I do have wash lights.

Use the spots to blind people.

I don’t know what rigging points the venue provided or if they just had a mounting bar. I wasn’t there. I just know that based on how I saw things, I would have done things different. What can work for corporate, concert and theatrical events won’t work on specific “sporting” type events, of which yoyo does ocunt.

I’m not going to say too much about my personal thoughts about Worlds leaving Orlando, as it’s gonna make quite a few people quite angry. However, I will say that Worlds needed to leave Orlando for one reason and one reason only: It is IMPOSSIBLE to truly be a world event when it is always at the same place. While it can be, it just lacks the proper spirit of a true “world” event.

Don’t forget, many people have light sensitivity, mostly when it comes to very strong bright lights. After many hours in the lights, my eyes get tired and I can get some really bad headaches. I have been told this is much more common with people with blue eyes. I have brown eyes, so I think I got this from my father. Unfortunately, I wear glasses, and I don’t want to keep switching between prescription glasses and sunglasses, mostly because one or the other is gonna get broken. Also, those “Transition” lenses don’t work well with stage lights and I don’t have the time to wait for it to transition… Working FOH, I’m mostly “protected” from the lights in a way that would cause me issue. When I work monitors, I’m often out of the lights enough to not have to worry MOST of the time.

It was pretty bright onstage compared to the hall. When I got off after my prelim I knew why people choose to wear sunglasses.

I like. 2 yoyo in sunglasses because it makes the color of the string pop
