Summit or Arctic Circle

I’m now considering a Chief… I really need some help making a decision. The Arctic Circle is probably off the table for now so Summit or Chief?

I have owned an AC for about 6 months now. I can honestly say it is my favorite throw. I have a Summit on the way, so I can compare them in the near future. The AC does everything I ask it. The slightly compact design also yields itself well to intricate, technical tricks (which I love). The AC is a beast you have to tame though. The Chief is much more forgiving and easy to use. Once your form and accuracy is refined, I feel as if the AC is the most capable CLYW throw on the market… At least out of the ones I have tried.

I have played the Chief and Avalanche. I own an Arctic Circle and Gnarwhal.

I have the summit and the chief. I like them both, but the summit is better. Why? It is more standard. I find that the chief is a lot bigger than most yoyos, making certain tricks very difficult to pull off. The summit is mid sized, so it is better in that respect. They both play insanely well and you can’t go wrong with either. I am more of a tech tricks oriented guy, which influences my opinion. I like the finish on the summit better. The shape is also really great (as is the chiefs, but this one fits my hand better). Also, side effects are a great way to change up the yoyo, so the summit wins in customizability as well.

yeah, I am interested in trying out side effects, so maybe I’ll go with the Summit… Any other opinions/advice?

The Chief is 1mm bigger in diameter and 1.5mm smaller in width… Less than a 2% increase in diameter compared to the Summit, and basically undetectable. Any issue with tricks being “very” difficult with the Chief is operator error imo.

Played both, liked the Arctic Circle wayyyy more.

That is a good point, and I do agree with the statistical data. I do, however, maintain that the summit feels a bit better than the chief for that kind of trick.

arctic circle ftw

I agree, arctic circle feels far superior

A lot of people say AC, but I have a pretty slow, relaxed play style, and from what I’ve heard about the Arctic Circle, it’s really fast. I think I’m gonna go with the Summit, but I still want a Yoyo that CAN go fast. Can the Summit handle speed? Does this seem like a good choice for me?

I wouldn’t say the AC is super fast. It moves at a good medium pace. I found the summit hard to push to go fast.

get the ac it is like a summit on steroids plus design is more thought out more fast more slow can be pushed harder will sleep for 40 years in the desert buy it now

Huh?

I own around 20 high end throws. The 65g Chief is my all time favorite but the lighter weight AC is my second favorite. Aesthetically nothing looks more interesting to me than the AC however I like the feel of the Chief more. I would have been more into the Summit if they would have made it a flat/flush hub with a unique flat sideeffect like how the AC is.

I would recommend a CODE2 over a Summit personally.

I would recommend in the following order: CHIEF, AC, CODE2, SUMMIT, AVALANCHE, ALBATROSS, SLIEPNIR, MARMOT, RANCHERO.

The only ones I dont own on that list are the Sliepnir and the Summit…but based on the specs/design/reviews I would certainly buy them if a good deal came around.

Im getting a Summit in the mail soon and Ive heard its flat out fantastic!!!1 As for the Arctic Circle, It did win yoyo of the year for 2012 I believe. Just goes to show how great CLYW is. But I also heard that the Arctic Cirlce can be a bit unstable at times. So its really good, if you have a really good breakaway. If not, I heard Its hard to control. I have never played with an AC so this is just what I have heard people say about it. The Summit on the other hand I heard is very stable and very awesome. and comes with side effects. Which is something I am so excited to play with.
I wish I could be more help. but I never tried each.
But I chose the Summit over the AC
Actually, I chose the Summit over everything hahahaah

I have a feeling it will win throw of the year
