Suggestion for BST rule change

Please tell me if this doesn’t belong in this category, I will move it if need be.

So I haven’t been a part of this community for super long, but I’ve spent the last few months mostly on new as well as old BST topics. In that time, I’ve noticed that a bunch of people have abused some of the rules to scam people, which is pretty unfortunate, especially for new members of this forum. For this reason, I wanted to suggest adding a rule such that everyone wanting to sell or trade will have to add a hand-written note of their username and the date the post was uploaded to the pics, so it’s clear that they actually still own the throws. I am well aware that this will not stop all attempts of scamming, but I feel that it will make a positive change and add reliability to the BST category.

That wouldn’t work mate

If someone is brand new don’t trade with them or use G&S on paypal simple as that.

It wouldn’t be very difficult since I feel like most people take some new pictures of their stuff when they post. It could just be one verification picture next to all the throws too if someone was selling a lot.

I support this, as one of the original proposers of this rule.

I think it’s a good idea for new users / new sellers for sure!

Also pretty easy, just grab a piece of paper and write your username on it and place it in the photo.

Haha I should probably have looked around to see if the same thing had already been proposed, I certainly don’t mean to take credit from you!

Exactly, it should be pretty easy to implement and it certainly adds some credibility to new posters.

I would definitely appreciate having as much reliability as possible if I were to dip into selling some of my throws, it’s awkward to not have any reputation to speak of when that’s the only thing people use as a credibility check on this forum.

What does this prove. They post a pic they can still scam you. :flushed:

As he sez…

While not fool proof, a minimum time as a member, say 30-40 days, and a minimum number of posts, say 30-40 seems to work well on other sites. This is what was used on TheYo forums with good success. Yes, there are some determined crooks that will abide by this, then strike, but it’s rare.

On this forum, they basically let anyone into the BST forum.

not to criticize or be adversarial, but what other sites? there’s a member on here that seemingly has at least 3 different facebook accounts. they recently used their history on yye as legit bst dealings, subsequently ran, what by independent accounts a kinda sketch deal, then finally sent (only after the buyer was on them for almost 2 weeks), their yoyo unsecured and assembled in a bubble mailer…

this dude has been on here for YEARS

Like I said, it’s not fool proof. And a guy using a bubble warp mailer isn’t a scammer.

I like this idea. I’m a member on another forum, of another subject, and people on BST have this requirement.

It’s not a lot of work and I believe it gives one more level of security for the transaction.

If this doesn’t become a rule, it sure could become common practice, with no harm done.

This topic comes up over and over, and the solution is always the same. Therefore, I created a simple mnemonic to help you remember…

I call it the ABC’s of BST:

  • A - Always use PayPal G&S and your chance of being scammed drops to near zero.
  • B - Be skeptical of deals that seem too good to be true or users with no established credibility.
  • C - Closing … uhh… closing… closing… um… you know what, just do A and you’ll be fine.

I know G&S works every time, but the hassle is still important to take into account. It’s a lot of work to go through a purchase to attempt to buy a throw that the seller doesn’t even own, it would just be a bit of extra security that the sale is legitimate. I know countless other BSTs where a handwritten note is absolutely required for any sale or trade post to exist. I personally feel that it adds some extra security, which is honestly never a bad thing.

G&S is actually one of the suggestions for BST transactions already. I agree with you, and, I personally skip any for sale posts that say “F&F or you add the fees for G&S”. If a seller is too lazy to figure out how to calculate what they need to charge to clear the amount they want for the yoyo, I’m not willing to take the chance they aren’t too lazy to properly pack and ship it.

Other communities do require user name and date handwritten in the picture of items being sold. I’m OK with that, but, I would expect most honest sellers would be.

Correct, the guy using a bubble wrap mailer for an expensive yoyo isn’t a scammer, he is just careless, ignorant, or a fool. But, I believe my statement holds true if you replace “guy using bubble wrap mailer” with “guy asking you to pay with F&F”

Nah, I just proposed it in the recent scammer thread. Not it’s own.

What is the difficulty with G&S?
