While in a sports ladder, Do i have to do both String AND Looping ladders?
probablly a stupid question but, what is a sports ladder?
sports ladder is a division at a yoyo competition that has a set list of tricks you have to do.
For the OP’s question. It all depends on the organizer of the comp.
Like for OK states and SCR I don’t make them do the looping part.

Reminds me of the time I went to worlds and would of gotten 2nd place since there were only 2 people in my age group :P.
when i judge, i highly encourage it. most contests only award the overall winner (s1+s2), so if you hit one or two of the tricks it’s worth it.
also, i think it’s important to learn looping basics.
