Skill toys for the office

Hi All.

Looking for some skill toys or other fidget things to help avoid distraction during boring meetings and keep my hands busy so I’m not tempted to reach for my phone or bite my pen.

Anything that doesn’t draw much attention or can be done sat down would be great.

No wrong answers, so don’t worry if it doesn’t fit the definition of ‘skill-toy’.

Thanks in advance - Jeaves.

do you find this as fun as begleri? I have some of those and more often than not I end up dropping them

i have an around square knuckle bone and it’s fun and can zone out with it. i also have begleri and enjoy it as well. id say the biggest difference in my mind is the knuckle roller leans more into fidget toy whereas begleri is more skill toy. begleri has more fancy stuff to pull off. if you wanna fidget mindlessly roller, if you wanna do tricks begleri

yes actually, i’m awful at begleri. but, i found that a shorter chord length at first, and the combination of weight and shape of the beads makes a big difference. i find i like begleri with edges or corners, but not square. tiki rollerz for me are easier to fidget with. it’s easier to pace my self and not drop it. the tiki rollerz also come apart so you can make begleri, or switch up pieces. zgrt has some good rollers too.

I think aroundsquare covers this from many angles. All their stuff is really nicely made. MfD begleri/rollers are also nice, but I prefer the material options that aroundsquare offers.

I have Knucklbones, deadeyes and Banzhi/Yiban rings, which can all be casual fidgets. I do drop them very occasionally, but rarely if I am just doing simple repeaters. The newer “nowhere planks” fit into this category, but I haven’t tried them.

I also enjoy their Mala/MKUltras for bead counting.

Begleri are nice and there are “short form” setups/techniques that I think could be done in a reasonably low key way.

do you reccomend the delrin or is the wood/metal kbone or deadeyes better do you think?

The aroundsquare rollers delrins are awesome. Very smooth even after dropping mine and watching it skid a few feet across concrete. Metal rollers just feel too heavy to me.

I have various items in wood, Delrin, stainless, blasted stainless, copper, brass, polished titanium, machined titanium and blasted titanium.

I think Delrin and blasted titanium are my favorite knucklebones from a tactile perspective. Those are the two that are on my desk.

I don’t have a wood knucklebone. I do have a 15mm Zebrano Mala which I handle a lot, and I think the material would be pleasant for a knucklebone too.

The extra heft of stainless/copper/brass are nice, but you will draw attention if you drop them (probably including from people one floor below).

Polished materials are a little grippier, which has pros and cons.

Contact coins, begleri, tops and knuckle rollers are all great fidgets for an office space

I’ve also been known to pull out a looper on a teams call camera off or in a cell phone room in the office

If I am on a call, unresponsive, 0a & Kendama are all in play.

Ohh yeah if I’m in the office and it’s empty or the folks there I know won’t care I’ll mess around with whatever YoYo’s I have randomly. And the moment I’m on “break” or away in the lunch area I’m messing with some skill toy.

Generally I work from home so the occasional office visit I’m full suit attire lol.

Conferences and such it’s all fair game no one cares at all as long as I’m not running a booth myself and there is space

Then again I have become known as the yoyo guy on my team and in the office.

You say there’s no wrong answer so balisong is the obvious choice. Non-trainer, ofc

Haptic coin? Not uncommon to have coins at work

how has no one mentioned pen spinning? Balisongs, fingerboards, and a lot of other skill toys like Kendama make a decent amount of noise and will likely annoy anyone nearby or distract others during your meetings. Pen spinning will not draw any attention since it’s a tool used in the office and makes zero noise while spinning them.
