Sickburn Yo-Yo Workshop Ultem Fixie

I would try wrapping the hex nut in some plumbers tape if it’s not a huge chunk missing. Or I could try to 3d print a little TPU cap for the nut to sit in if that doesn’t work.

Could mask the nut, place it in the yo, and fill with some epoxy, and once it cures remove the nut (may need to scrape some of the epoxy off I think)

I’ve not tried this before, but I think it should work. may not be the most beautiful end result, but with enough patience it could probably cleaned up nicely with some sand paper and detail polishing.

Sorry to hear it got stripped, man, that’s a real bummer

+1 for that… and if you ever find the time maybe you and @TryCatchThrow could collab on a very durable TMBR axle(s) replacement. I haven’t tried the 3D printed one yet, which might be durable enough, but I have destroyed a walnut one before by overtightening.

That’s an interesting problem, something too firm could potentially damage the delicate wooden threads and strip them, so 3d prints are probably ideal for the threaded portion, but I think Keith uses a wooden dowel for the axle and if those have a tendency to break the dowel could potentially be replaced by some delrin, micarta, or something tough. I haven’t heard anyone complain yet about snapping one of his though.

They are also easy to replace/cheap/readily available

They are wood dowel axles.

I have yet to hear of one snapping at the axle. I think the threads are by far the failure point I’d be concerned about, but I haven’t heard about any failures in the field.

But for the record would be thrilled to collab with @AudreySickburn. We kind of collabed on a plastic bloodcell before the Plasm was a fully realized thing

These are my current dimensions, an average of 4 No Jive Axles that I had laying around, but if other folks have calipers and wanna measure theirs the more the merrier. I figure I’ll have these bead blasted to ensure they have a tiny bit of texture instead of glass smooth, to… jive with the existing setup and keep play feeling as authentic as possible.

I also have x4…for science!
OD1 x OD2 x ID x L x Groove (in mm)

  1. 7.49 x 6.14 x 3.86 x 14.79 x 2.63
  2. 7.45 x 6.59 x 3.72 x 14.62 x 2.43
  3. 7.47 x 6.26 x 3.68 x 14.63 x 2.59
  4. 7.51 x 6.51 x 3.74 x 14.70 x 2.41

Excellent, thank you!

with all the bearing blanks I had to pay a good bit extra for +/- 0.05 mm tolerances. I don’t think I’m gonna have to pay for extra tolerances on these

I have merged your measurements and mine, and added a chamfer to reduce string wear.

It seems to me that this is a perfect material to replace the wooden axle with. Much greater life and likely very similar feels.

I suspect these might reduce the need to tune or fuss with a no jive too honestly. I printed out a test of the model to make sure it fit and gave it some throws and there is some durability issues with the 3d printed prototype but it made my BC era play better and significantly reduced vibe. Which makes sense because a bunch of my axles are wonky as heck, oval, off centered holes, uneven notch placement.

Order is in with the shop. My cost on these assuming tariffs don’t change will be about $4.90.

Did you print it standing up or on its side? I would think you could take advantage of the hex hole and print the ends hex shaped on its side to improve durability a little. Obviously heat is still going to be a problem.

Printed standing up but my only issue was heat. Axles didn’t break but melted a little after some more aggressive throws. That’s okay though the print was really only to make sure it fit before I paid the machine shop $400 for axles that don’t fit lol.

I have finished making the “boxes”. All 100.

PS. As I’m disabled and have a rather limited amount of time I can be on my feet per day I’m going to be listing these up in batches once they arrive and are strung up and QA’ed rather than posting all 100 up at once. The batch size and how frequently I post will depend on my health as my disability affects me differently day to day but probably something like 20 a week.

Gonna be on the lookout for certain!
Will they be on here or your site?

Never heard back from YYE so I’ll just be selling them directly on my site.

You already have them? Wow that was quick!
