Arbitrary color matching is another reason to do manual silicone for sure. That is fair

Ive got some CLYW throws i siliconed 3 or 4 years ago. Ive not had one single problem since.

Consensus data says manual silicone lasts about one fourth the time (or less) of silicone stickers.

How often do you replace response pads?

I almost never do. If I pay with a yoyo a lot, I might once a year. I think in the past 5 years I’ve replaced 5 sets of response pads across all my yo-yos. The only yoyo I’ve ever replaced pads in twice is my OG shutter, and I’ve played with that consistently for over 3 years I’m guessing this is not the norm, so I figured I’d ask the community. Personally, I have a much bigger issue with unwanted binds than missed binds.

So those advocating manual silicone as a clever frugal way to save money, have you factored in the fact that you’ll need to do it 4× as often… or more?

Also with that in mind, replacing the stock stickers that come on the yo-yo from the factory right out of the gate starts to look like a bad deal financially, considering how long those stock pads would have lasted…
