Should there be a monometal Draupnir?

Should there be a momometal version of a Draupnir. If there was how would it play?

Type what you think in the comments.

That was the Sleipnir I beleive the precursor to Draupnir

But yeah there should be more Draupniresque’ clones.

The $90 Fakenirs however are kind of tempting

No…. There shouldn’t be a mono metal Draupnir?.

It would play ‘nice’…. Minus the ‘Magical Draupnir bi-metal weight distribution.

It would be like putting a lawn mower engine in a New Corvette.

Imma need a link for these fakes.

Is it worth spending $90 on a fake? my emerald green for Something (20 specimens, if I remember correctly) I paid 150…

From the fakes I have tried they have either been worth it in a hilarious way (ie how bad the fake was), or in an almost indiscernible way. If there were draupnir’s on the used market for not a huge collector price I would say get the real thing but accidentally damaging something that is hard and expensive to source makes it not worth getting. Especially a model known for its fragility. Don’t go flaunting your fake if you do get one and disclose its a fake if you sell or trade it, along with pricing it accordingly.

Now the morals of fakes is a different story, since it is IP theft, no getting around that. So if supporting that weighs heavy on your conscious then opt out of exploring that market.

I will say I have had folks burned by mercari and nest for fake TP BGM’s so its not cool when folks aren’t keeping track of fakes and are not disclosing it. Double edged sword kinda situation.

Tried one of those fakenirs, they are slightly heavier overall. It could’ve been a good yoyo on its own had it not been a copy.

I think the correct term is Fauxpnir.

A monometal anything would not be a Draupnir anyway

Poorpnirs.

No, but “Post must be at least 4 characters”

Should there always be a monometal/bimetal variation of everything?

I find this is a fairly beginner stance to take on every yoyo. Some yoyos are at their very best as a monometal. Some as a bimetal. You can’t always convert the design and have it come out well.

There can be only one.

Look to be honest, I went ahead and picked one up. To definitely looks to be pretty interesting. Plus I have an advantage with my knowledge for custom modifications which are usually known to have a massive increase in power, stability, and spin time compared to their original models. ALL I HAVE TO DO IS TAKE OFF SOME WEIGHT FROM THE INNER RIM WALL THEN FIT IT WITH A STAINLESS INNER FLAT RIM AND BOOM!!! CROUD PLEASER

The community is pretty supportive of new entrants. If some of these companies can make a few good yo-yos under their own brand name, put them in nice boxes, and work out a distribution agreement with YYE, seems that would be the better route than making counterfeits in a niche hobby that is actually flush with options.

Maybe just consult with a native speaker on names so they don’t end up with an absolutely retarded company name like “Fetusnice”. (For the record, I’m 100% sure that company name sounds stupid in any language.)

In answer to this I look to the YoyoJam Hitman and the Lyn Fury which was an all plastic version of the Hitman which was a plastic body with metal rings. I was really excited for a cheaper version of the Hitman. Maybe it was a good yoyo in it’s own right, but to me the Lyn Fury was a total disappointment. It played nowhere the same as the original hitman, and I suspect it would be the same with a monmetal Draupnir. The difference in materials and weight distribution will make them play totally different. So, don’t get yer hopes up kids…

I was sorta following along until you locked on your CAP KEY and started SCREAMING AT US!

Regardless, thanks for waking me up.

I would love to see a video of your ‘modding advantage’.

Fwiw, the differences between the Sleipnir and the Draupnir are such that I don’t see much of any comparison in terms of them being different versions of each other.

Shape wise, the Sleipnir has a less angular/extreme profile, with the outer rim being steeper and larger. They have the same diameter and width and both fit within the category of v-shape but they’re still very different designs.

Play wise, they feel nothing alike. The Sleipnir feels much lighter compared to the Draup’s very solid presence.

The Sleipnir may have inspired YYR to design the Draupnir but they’re pretty fundamentally different yo-yos imo and I don’t think calling the Sleipnir a mono Draup is accurate.
